deferred EA and UVM is my first choice- do i still have a chance? they would have just rejected me right? I am so bummed first college I have heard from and i am wondering if all state schools are going to be really difficult this year based on the economy-yikes

What are your stats?

3.56
1860 SAT
1 ap score 5
taking 2 now last two semesters 4.1 and 4.2 trending up
some extra’s writing etc…

My son did a VIP application and I just learned he was deferred as well. It is hard having the first decision be a deferment, especially given a number of classmates at his school have already learned they were accepted to UVM. 45 seniors from my son’s class have already applied to UVM this fall. I guess from a high achieving high school, they do have a broad selection to choose from.
Sorry to hear about your deferment. Wishing you the best during the regular admission cycle. March 17th is a very long way down the road, so hang in there. I’m not sure I’m even going to mention it to my son…I want him to sleep tonight and I think it will be quite a blow as well.

memomanddad, I’m surprised you were deferred. My daughter was accepted with lower SAT scores. What major did you select. Some majors are more competitive, such as Nursing. Also your rank in class is important.

political science

Have your guidance counselor call the admissions representative for your area. Your counselor can discuss your qualifications and interest in UVM. You can also write to the UVM admissions counselor telling him/her that UVM is your first choice and why you want to attend.

Lots of UVM deferrals this year with VIP applications.

Don’t worry, we know a young lady who was deferred (VIP), but has since received 6 acceptances, with a few more responses yet to come…;)

I’m seeing the VIP deferral trend too. Highly qualified applicants too. Quite strange.

i’m guessing there’s a lot of competition for uvm and the decisions were made on your essays.

Many State schools probably don’t even get to the essay on the first round because of the number of applicants. They have cut-off criteria based solely on GPA & SAT, demographic quotas, etc.
