All right, so I was deferred and am understandably disheartened about my chances of getting in at this point. (Considering the fact that I was the only one of five who applied early at my school and didn't get in)

I know I won't stack up well against the regular decision applicants because I don't have a 4.0 (or even close)... but I was wondering if I even have a prayer? If I was really awful wouldn't they just have rejected me? I don't want to disclose my personal statistics at this point in time.

My main question: As a deferred ED applicant at Johns Hopkins, is there any realistic hope? I'm not banking on it at all and have got my other applications lined up... I just really love Hopkins!

ok way too general of a question… my mistake.
what my REAL question is… if I can prove to Hopkins that I should be there by
a) murdering my classes
b) submitting another glowing rec (I only submitted one initially)
and c) writing an extremely compelling and genuine letter of continued interest
would these things help even if my GPA is below what they regularly accept?

You have to know the level of the school I attend. It is a highly competitive elite New England prep school, and we actually have a pretty good track record with Hopkins (13 accepted last year, 2 attend)… according to the records my GPA is slightly, but not by much, below the typical acceptance.

Your plan sounds great, there’s really nothing else you can do. Have you done any additional work this year worth mentioning? You can send another resume along with your letter of rec and letter of interest. I racked up an additional 70 hours community service in the past few months since I applied to prepare for a deferral, I’m sure if you show Hopkins you’re working harder than ever and are genuinely interested in attending, you’ll have a decent chance. I know someone who was deferred from Cornell and accepted RD. There is never no hope as long as you’re still in the applicant pool.
