ACT: n/a
GPA: 3.95 U

Other stats: 5 ap tests so far (will have taken and hopefully passed 10 when I graduate)

Essays: decent

Counselor Rec:generic
Hook (if any):
Location: southern MD
School Type: public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: male
major strengths: grades, ECs, SATS
major weaknesses: applied VERY close to deadline; didn’t have anyone read my essay besides my mom; not the best SAT 2s; should’ve waited til RD so I could submit my 1st semester grades
why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: applied just before deadline (does that matter?)

What do you think my chances are for RD? (Congrats to those admitted)

you sound like a really intelligent person, and from what i see, i’m not sure why you were deferred. how many extra curricular activities do you have?

i got deferred too. i got a 2100 on my sats and i have extracurriculars coming out the wazoo, but i only have 4 AP credits from high school to my name, so i think that’s why i was deferred.

but even if you don’t have too many ec’s, i think you still have a pretty good chance of getting in RD. but i guess we’ll both just have to suffer through till april when the RD’s come out.

Dear 20CAC10 : Having applied just before the deadline likely did not have a major impact on your application’s status. Using the AGORA portal, be sure that all components of your application have been received. While that sounds like a formality, you want to be sure that every piece of data is in Boston College’s admissions counselors hands.

Next, since you are from Maryland and snowed-in from Saturday, spend some time on Sunday to review your essay. Did the material reflect something interesting about you and your desire to attend Boston College? Was the material adequately proofread for grammar and spelling? Did you have a trusted teacher or adult review the content? How about the flow from thought to thought in your essay? Did you bring the reader along for the ride or did you just provide a list of facts from your application?

Last, remember that the EA average SAT three-way score among the 40% of accepted applications from the 5800 submitted was 2131. In the grand scheme of things, your SAT scores, though excellent, were merely average (or near average) among this year’s EA pool.

Our advice is that you now need to get your regular decision applications in order over the next several days. Provided that Boston College is truly your top choice school, you can contact your admissions counselor to underscore your interest sometime after the holidays.
