Deferred

yes, I am a freshman at ND

they are supposed to accept you to the university of Notre Dame and not to any college - this is what they preach, but no one knows what goes on behind the door.

Yes, chrissmith332 you are right, everyone enters the First Year of Studies regardless of major. You can choose after your freshman year but it must be final by the end of your sophomore year

I’m really curious whether actually being deferred is good or if its useless. I know you guys will says theres not advantage/disadvantage of being deferred except that you’ll just be seen with other applicants during the reg. decision pool. But what I’m curious is there are unis where there are lots deferred and a small percentage of them are actually accepted during RD. And there are unis where little are deferred and a higher percentage are accepted. Do you know what i mean… Im hoping ND is the latter… I REALLY WANT WANT WANT AND NEED NEED NEED TO GET ACCEPTED…!!!

oh wait, i got this quote from numbersguy:
I just bumped to the top of the list the 2009 admission statistics thread for your review. Some pertinent facts from last year:

44% of the EA applicants were accepted.
660 were deferred.
If we assume that 50% of the deferred applicants were accepted RD, then 53% of the
original 3842 accepted students would have come from the EA pool. This would mean that only 17% of those applying RD only were accepted. Thus, a three times better chance to be accepted by applying EA. (Keep in the mind the 50% is just a guess)
The University later posted a total of 4113 acceptances, indicating another 271 students were accepted off the waiting list, after the original acceptance number of 3842 was released. (I received the original stats as an ND club officer)
As noted elsewhere, if you were deferred, there is probably one area, such as GPA or test score, that the University is watching. Find out from your admission officer what it may be and see if you can impact it. My son was deferred last year, but had an excellent first semester GPA his senior year and was accepted RD. We watched the UCLA basketball game today and then brought him home for the holidays. He was disappointed after being deferred this time last year, but is loving every minute this year on campus. ND has much to offer, so be patient these next few months. It is worth the wait.

im bummed i didnt get accepted. Im screwed… theyre probably starring at my gpa and since my 1st semester grades are BAD…im screwed
