About two weeks ago I received notice I've been deferred from early action.

I work about 15 hours a week, am actively involved with theater at my high school, and had a 1970 on my SAT. I think the reason I got deferred was because of my GPA, a 3.2 (I know, I know) but the result of that was because of the C's and D's I received my freshman year.

So whats the deal with Tulane for deferred applicants? Is there any chance for me? Does a deferred applicant have less of a chance than a regular decision applicant? Is Tulane one of those schools where almost no deferred applicants get accepted? If anyone knows anything about this, please help me out. Tulane is my top choice and I want to know what to expect when my letter comes in April.

Deferred is better than RD since they didn’t reject you outright. As was said by others in response to your other posts, they probably want to look at your mid semester grades. How do you think you’ll do? I’d expect a decision shortly after they get them.
What are your safety schools?

Make sure to give the admissions office a heads up expressing your interest in Tulane. The school’s yield (admitted who matriculate/accepted applicants) isn’t phenomenal, so I would guess that telling them you are passionate about the school wouldn’t hurt your chances.

I also go deferred, and the main reason I’m sure is becuase of my grades. I got an F in a correspondence class freshman year and it brought down my GPA ALOT. I think the main thing they are looking for is improvement in your first semester grades.

For those of you that got deferred, because of your GPA, especially from your freshman year, I would do two things…

one…when your midterm (second marking period) grades come out, send them immediately to your admissions counselor. Hopefully, you will have straight A’s or close to it.

two…make sure you are taking very challenging classes when you send in these grades…nothing beats getting A’s in AP Physics, AP Calculus or AP Statistics for example.
