Deferred!?

I almost can't believe I have been deferred from USF last month! I guess I'd like to know my shots of getting in....

My GPA is a 3.1 unweighted 3.5 weighted (I know I had a tough Junior year)
Sat 1400/2110 (With just CR&M and all 3 respectively)
I'm president of my Latin Club/Academic Team and I'm involved in several other clubs
I'm also very involved in my Red Cross and Humane Society.
4 AP's last year; 6 this year.
Applied For Summer
Held down a job for 3 years

I think my deferment may have had something to do with, other than my GPA obviously, the fact that I hadn't had my Volunteer hours on my transcripts when they were sent. In reality I have over 200, but they only had 8 when they were sent.

Your SAT score is good for admission to any Florida college, but USF may have deferred you if your grades took a sharp nose dive your junior year. Doubt volunteer hours mean anything. USF prefers high GPAs with lower test scores to higher test scores with lower GPAs. Maybe USF got spooked by your junior year grades and they are waiting to see if your grades went up this fall semester–make sure USF gets your grades for this last semester.

Anyway, the best thing you can do with USF is contact them and find out exactly why they deferred you and what you need to do to be admitted. People guessing on this blog why you got deferred isn’t going to help you much–get with USF admissions. Good luck.

Also, is it still possible to make it into the honors college after being deferred?

Loaded question! Obviously you must be admitted to USF before getting into the honors college. Students admitted with certain minimum GPAs and test scores receive automatic invitations to honors. Your test scores are good but that might not be enough to get in honors, might not be good enough to gain you regular admission with you now having deferred status. What you could do is make sure you contact admissions first and get your ducks lined up to gain admission and if you are confident you can get the initial admission worked out, contact and make an appeal to the honors college director Dr. Stuart Silverman who’s contact info is in attached link. You need to find out why you were deferred though and get admitted first before you get into honors college, it could be simply a mistake or oversight. The clock is ticking so get on it quick. One can become a multi-millionaire after being broke, so I guess one can get into USF’s honor college after being deferred!
