Deferred! :(

"A decision has been deferred to allow you the opportunity to earn competitive test results by retaking the SAT or ACT"

So basically, UCF wants me...but my scores are too low :| Ugh this sucks. And it will be my third time taking the SAT/ACT.

SAT: 550 Math 560 Reading [1110] and 440 Writing [1550] I guess it was the writing that killed it? But I swore UCF doesn't consider the writing section as part of admission.

ACT: 22

Anyone know what kinda score UCF is looking for?

wow, that was rude.
Anyway - to answer your question - yes, its probably the reading part of the SAT ? and perhaps the ACT, but ? I’ve seen others that have posted (I think) that had a lower ACT and were accepted, … maybe their SAT’s were a little higher.?
Just guessing?

What the heck, take it again if you can.

Best of luck
;-)

You’re essentially at the edge of the cutting point between students UCF defers and flat out denies. The bulk of the student body will have similar scores, and since UCF is becoming more and more selective, they are raising their standards. Some people with those credentials will be accepted, deferred (the majority), or denied. My friend was deferred (who had similar credentials) and was accepted about 3 weeks after.

Retake the SAT’s, but this time, trying taking a prep course from Sylvan or another place! You want your scores to stand out!

This is when I thank ‘lizard’ (a forum member) for forcing me to apply a couple months ago. I got in summer term with a 22 ACT and my SAT is even lower than yours… they didn’t ask for higher test scores or anything. You applied for fall term?

And I’m sorry that post number 2 was so rude. :frowning: Was really uncalled for.

so glad to see that rude comment was removed!!!

Mizz, congratulations on your admission to UCF. If you haven’t already, make sure your FAFSA is completed and submitted by this weekend! Use estimates for income on form and adjust later on when family members get any W2s and 1099s later this month–but apply now. It’s first come first serve for some scholarships and grants, so get the FAFSA done now. On the FAFSA app, name all the colleges you applied to or might attend, including UCF. Make sure you get your registration in with state for Bright Futures too.

oh man… idk if i want to apply to UCF anymore… we have like the same scores

Thanks, Lizard! Also, I THINK I’ve already submitted my FAFSA before winter break, but I’m not 100% positive. Pretty sure I did because my counselor made all the seniors do it. What in the world are ‘W2s and 1099s’? I hate it that Bright Future doesn’t pay for summer term, because that’s when I start… I’m trying to look for some other scholarships, but they’re not that easy to get Dx

Mizzxvii,
Double check on the FAFSA. My kids their senior year had to fill out stuff at school, but that was for Bright Futures and to be considered for other state scholarships like the Robert C. Byrd. The FAFSA that all the schools require in order to evaluate you for financial aid is something you’ll need to fill out with your parents. It’s quite intensive the first time you do it, finding all the info on your income, assets, taxes, etc. etc. Even if you think you may not qualify for need based aid, fill out the forms. Most colleges require them to be considered even for merit aid, and the FAFSA is also needed for consideration of various loans, i.e. the Stafford.

zebes

Mizzxvii, Zebes is right–your parents should to do the FAFSA along with your help. You probably did the Bright Futures, not the FAFSA which couldn’t be submitted before Jan. 1. Doing the FAFSA isn’t as difficult as it first appears to be. Attached is a link to complete and submit the app. Maybe ask your parents tomorrow morning if they would work on the FAFSA this weekend with you and get it over with. Doing the FAFSA could net you thousands of dollars for your college expenses. It’s as easy as 1,2,3!

Thanks Zebes and Lizard! I will do that very very soon! I visited the school today, and well, I just wasn’t excited as I thought I would be. The school is beautiful though- I just wish I had more time to walk around and look. But yes, I will definitely work on the FAFSA very soon. It looks like I did apply for Bright Futures or something else because they didn’t ask for my family income or anything. Thanks again!
