Nicky Jane- bring ur scores up becuase it seems like ur grades r good but u don't test that well so if ur scores go up they'll prob take anothe look at u. Also, take a deep breath, u seem to be very ntense... i hope u don't come across that way to the adcom... it's kind of a turn-off

What so you mean INTENSE??? I'm sorry if it is a "turnoff" but I would hope the ADCOM would see it as a POSITIVE thing that I truly LOVE Cornell instead of SOME PEOPLE who obviously do not appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost forgot yesterday...I got a 33 on my ACT...do u think that is gonna help me!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

lol Nicky. There is more to getting into college than just test scores. Either Cornell liked your application as a whole, or they didn't. In your case, being defered means that they liked what they saw, but were uncertain about something in your application, maybe your 1st quarter grades. There are plenty of other schools besides Cornell that can give you exactly what you are looking for, so dont be too discouraged.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want to know WTF they didn't like so I can change it! LOL...anyways thanks for the advice!! :)

Nicky, I feel for you. I have two children who went to Cornell. My d graduated last year. She was waitlisted and then admitted off the waitlist. She sent in extra recommendations and went up to visit in late April. During her visit she ran into two profs. Who knows what helped. She grad with a 3.5 plus gpa. Bythe way your test scores are higher than my d and the same as my son.

Now he also went up twice and "arranged" to see profs in his dept.We also sent in letters of recommendations from Cornell alums.

bottom line, you need to show them you still want to come. Send in another teacher rec and have your guidance counselor call. Send in a short personal note that you still want to come.

Now I don't know what school you applied to, but the state sections ofter defer and then admit on a rolling basis. Don't get your hopes down, it can still happen. Your scores and class rank are good enough to get in.

a dad

nickyjane... when ur typing in caps, it seems like ur yelling... haha :)

Nicky, what was your original ACT score since you just received a 33? Because mine was definately not that high, but I know that is not the only factor. How did your first quarter grades/class load seem?

Awww that was very nice anotherdad2!!! My parents just keep sayin "maybe we should look at some less selective schools" :(

Yes that is because I am yelling cujoe.

Vash, I only took the ACT once, it was so random because I took it last June and my parents signed me up. I didn't really care cus I figured I'd have a lot of other chances to take it, and my SATs were already decent. Anyway, I stayed out till like 4 am the night before partying, and didn't study or anything...and I ended up getting a 33. I kinda wonder what I woulda gotten if I had tried to take it again, but I didn't really get around to it...

Im not sure i understand. Did you even send them your ACT score? Because that score is pretty close, if not higher, than your SAT score in comparison. It doesn't make sense that you wouldn't send that score ..... it seems like you are leaving something out.

No, I did send that score...and it IS higher than my SAT score by comparison...I was asking if that would help me any, but I guess considering they had that score during the ED round, it wouldn't change anything between now and RD

hey another dad, how common is it that state schools defer and than admit(more than the other colleges or the same)?????? I was deferred from CALS bioengineering, and i am out of state.

but ofcourse my stats are opposite of nickeyjane: 1420, 700,720,700(prolly 750+ after decmeber retake).......7 ap's (4's/5's) but only at 3.5 gpa uw(good junior year thoiugh 3.7+)....so do the state school defer and accept more commonly?
**like if i get 2b's and 4 a's or 5a's and 1 b am i good to go?

what was your major rpp?

if your tests are low maybe retake them

anotherdad2, good comments. Nicky, the best people to ask about something like this is parents who experienced this with their children. Most of the kids here got in to their school, and have not been through what you and I are going through. Stick to your original plan, and wait to see what happens. I'm sure it wasn't your test scores that got you in, considering people will 1320s get in. Continue to show interest, but do not stalk professors and adcom.

-Mike

I will TRY not to stalk professors and adcom, but I won't make any promises. :)

well... if ur good at stalking... then by all means... i'm jk, but i think u guys worry way too much, most likely the ed deferees will get in rd... at least on cc anyways

Isn't planning to send additional essays a good idea though?

I wrote so many other essays because I've been working on other college apps

Yeah I think I might send a few other essays...if they don't want to read them, then oh well...nothing lost. And the worst that can happen is that they think I REALLY REALLY want to go there, which is, uh, TRUE.
