did any of you try calling the admissions office yet?
if you did, how did it go?

My guidance counselor warned me to wait until a few weeks into January to call, seeing as they're all finally on break until the new applications come in, and the last thing you want to do is bother them about your application right before Christmas.

what do you do when you call? do they tell you what is wrong?

Hmmm, my counselor told me that if I wanted to send a letter or something to the admissions office, I should do it before the January RD deadline, or at least postmark it January 1st.

is this a good thing to do?

Did you even read the suggestions that were posted along with your SCEA decision in the "What to do if deferred" section?? The first thing that Brentzel mentioned is not to even worry about Yale for now and ensure that Regular Decision applications are complete and sent out. Then, sometime in late January or even through February, deferees can update the Yale office with any new information, in the form of a letter, that could strengthen their candidacy along with the MidYear report.

I pretty much stopped reading after I saw the word defer

EAD, I read it and asked my counselor about it and she told me I should try to send a letter anyway. I'm not saying that's the way everyone should do it.

It wasn't an update on awards or anything, it was just a formality sort of thing (thanking them, etc.), since that was what guidance told me to do. I don't believe that anyone at the Yale office will really read it.

And of course I read the deferral letter! Silly. I basically drank in every single word of it and took it (once I got it in the mail) to my guidance counselor.

Send the letter. Even if it is just put in your file at least the regional admission office will see it when they re-read your application.
