I have a question about deferring federal direct loans. I am planning to graduate from my 4 year university early by a semester in order to save money. This would mean that I will finish undergrad in December. I am planning to start professional school the following August. That spring semester in between, I plan to take some enrichment classes at a local community college as I apply to professional schools. If I take a full course load at community college, would this allow me to defer repaying the loans because I understand that after 6 months of being out of school, you would have to start repaying your loans. However, I don't start professional school until 8 months after and I would rather defer repayment during that 8 month gap period by taking some classes at a local community college as a full time student. Please let me know if this is a valid plan or would I have to restart paying the loans during that 8 month gap even if I am a full time student at community college. Thanks!

The studentaid dot ed dot gov site talks only about undergraduate students, which you will not be in the spring and graduate students, which you will be more than six months later. Contact them for the answer to your question.

Taking enrichment courses will not count for in-school deferment. You must be enrolled at least half-time in a regular, degree-granting program to qualify. You will only have to pay for two months. I suggest saving for it & making those payments.
