Does anyone know the chances of acceptance for those deferred?

According to BC's website, about 20% of those deferred are accepted in the ED round. See the paragraph at the very bottom of this link:

thank you!

I have a question about deferral... To make it seem like something positive, does it mean that BC didnt outrightly reject me because it knew I had potential and thinks I might be stand out when compared to the RD pool of applicants? So then I do have something that BC likes and therefore it doesn't want to reject outrightly and hastily = deferral?

Yes, that is how you should take it, to me it seems like you would be competitive in the RD pool. Don't give up hope. My D got deferred from Georgetown and that has a 10% change in the RD round. Good luck

Usually, colleges accept EA applicants based on the fact that these applicants would definitely make it in RD. The fact that you were deferred just means that they liked your application but just weren't 100% sure you would make RD. 20% of deferred applicants make it RD so keep your head up.

Thank you for this!

if deferred, make sure u make lots of contact with good questions and update good transcripts or scores

How do I update the college with my latest prelim grades?

bump, help?

If they are truly "prelim" grades, don't bother. But if you do have your official first-semester grades, have your high school send an updated transcript to the Admissions Office. And it wouldn't hurt to also send a quick note or email to alert your regional rep about your more recent grades. That will give you an opportunity to again stress your desire to attend BC. (If you don't know who your regional rep is, you can call the Admissions Office and ask which staff member covers your geographic area.)

^Sorry, I didn't quite understand this:
'If they are truly "prelim" grades, don't bother.'

Our school has 3 preliminary examinations before our final board exam. I already sent in my mid-term results before 1st Nov, when I submitted my application to BC.

My first prelim grades are my most recent grades.

Can my school counselor do this through email?

vesch, I'm sorry for any confusion I caused. I didn't know that you are an international student and have different terminology.

Here in the US, "preliminary" grades usually mean "not final" (sort of an estimate, if you will, as to where you stand at some point during the class before the final exam). But your "prelimin grades" are indeed final, so go ahead and send them.

^Oh, sorry to confuse you! We call those predicted grades.

How do I send them? (Sorry to bother.)

Have your school mail them into the office of admissions at BC at:

Boston College
Office of Undergraduate Admission
Devlin Hall 208
140 Commonwealth Avenue
Chestnut Hill, MA 02467-3809
United States

veshch, im indian too and i suggest you send your prelim marks as your midyear. i did this last time. you can send your final board marks as your "final report" ask your school to fax them if you want as well
