My status said that i pretty much needed new sat act scores

I just re took the act this saturday and get my scores in november

So my question is ... Without new or better scores what are my chances of admission?

If my scores do improve what is my chancee??
And what does defferal exactly mean? Is it a nice way of no or is it a maybe?
Thanks so much for responses!!

UCF is using rolling admissions, so it’s not un-common to be deferred and then admitted, later in the process. At this point, UCF would rather wait, review more applicants, before offering you a slot in the spring.

Last year, the average enrolled Freshman profile for the SAT was 1837, ACT was 27 and GPA was 3.8. You really want to have your SAT over 1600, and/or ACT 24 or higher for a solid chance.

I have a question for you. What date did you apply and what date did you receive your deferral? And don’t feel too bad about your deferral! I’m right there with you at schools such as Temple and ECU…which I thought I’d get into immediately. I’m waiting on my UCF response and feel as though I’ll be in the same boat as you.

1650 SAT, but just retook it last weekend. I took the ACT’s the Saturday before that so I’m waiting on that score as well. I goofed off in 9th grade and the beginning of 10th which really screwed my GPA over at a 2.78 UW but I have an incredible upward trend and my weighted GPA is a 4.0.

I got deferred yesterday too! I’m nervous as well but I got a 24 on my ACTs and will be receiving my new SAT scores this week so fingers crossed! Good luck!

I got accepted into UCF for the summer 2014 summer term and my scores were horrible!
1390 SAT and 21 ACT. But I had a 5.1 Weighted GPA and a 3.6 weighted GPA plus rigorous coursework. It would probably be best to get the GPA up (if necessary), put in your resume community service hours, if you have a job, what extracurricular clubs or sports you’re in, etc. they’re looking for well rounded students it seems like.

I was deferred as well but I am a transfer student and it was for the spring 2014 semester. I’m really worried about when I will hear back because I know the deposit is due on the 1st of December…

First I’ll have a go at explaining what ‘deffered’ really means. When a school, such as UCF, defers you, it means that they’re not sure if they would like to accept you or not-that bit is pretty simple. They see something in you, but they see that you don’t have the stats to get accepted normally. When they defer you, they are pushing that time frame back, so they can look at you again later when they see the whole applicant pool. However, the longer they wait, the more competitive it is, and the more ‘star students’ apply, so the pool suddenly becomes really nice, and then they look back at YOUR stats, and see that they’re too low now. Which is why, when you’re deferred, you NEED to send them updates of improvement, based on grades and test scores. Honestly, as much as I hate to say it, UCF really doesn’t care about community service hours, what you did after school (Unless you worked at Lockheed Martain or in a hospital or something). They have so many students that they have to immediately cut the pool in half just by GPA and test scores, so that’s really all that matters. If you guys hope to get in, you need to send in some kind of grade or test improvement, based on what they ask for. Sitting there, not trying to retake the test or get better grades will not go in your favor-they want to see effort. So for those of you who were deferred for grades, you need to send in your first semester grades (Which you hopefully took seriously and did better then other years, because they want to see improvement) and for those who were deferred for test scores, you need to retake the test and hope your score went up. This is the basic meaning of being deferred, hope it cleared some things up!

Thanks so much for clearing that up. It was really helpful. I know it very important to ret ake sat/act but i have already taken the tests 3 times and dont think there will be further improvemnt. My grades have went up but i dont think that was reslly the issue to begin with. Superscored i have a 25 act but ucf will not superscore and 23 is what shoes on their computer. Ie as told 30% of students come off the deffered list.

WRITE - being completly honest, do you think i have a chance of admission or WITHOUt submitting anything new are thr chsnces unlikley?

Thanks for your help- sorry fort typos im on an ipad!
