JerseyShoreMom: My daughter is also starting Summer 09 as a Hospitality Management Major and we are also from New Jersey. She was also deferred (for a few days and then admitted to Summer Term) and is thrilled to have been admitted. Her best friend was also admitted (to Fall 09 Term), also from NJ. Thanks to Seiclan's recommendation, it looks like my daughter and her friend will be looking to request housing in the out of state student dorms for the fall. I'm happy for your daughter...I know how excited she must be.

JerseyShoreMom - Most out of state students chose to attend the LAST possible orientation session, which is on the Thursday and Friday before classes start on Monday. This way, they simple move into their dorms early (this saves you a second trip back to Orlando). We are instate and my daughter and I attended the summer orientation session that was the Monday/Tuesday one week before summer B classes start. We were also able to move in early by doing this. You could also do that one and just stay in a hotel for the week and explore Orlando. Regular summer move in for Freshman is the Saturday before classes start. The summer B orientation sessions, while not posted yet, usually start in Mid May and are offered twice a week (two days each). Many kids try to get into the earliest possible to ensure that they get registered for the classes that they want. We were concerned that we were going to a later one but found we had no problems. My d got all the classes that she wanted. On the second day of orientation the students register for summer AND fall classes. Registration is always on the afternoon of the second day of orientation and they save spots in classes for each session. If your child dosen't get into a particular class, she can alway wait until the next orientation session meets, log onto her laptop, and snatch up the freshly open spots in the new sections.

I just signed D up for housing for Summer, Fall and Spring. How do we select which section, i.e, academic village versus lake clair for Summer. Is there a way on myUCF to send in the deposit to hold a seat in class? Is the only way to send in payment for enrollment via mail or will they accept payment online?

Ok so housing preference won't open up until March:

Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 First-year Students
This page will open in March 2009 for first-year students. Students will be able to select a roommate and preference their housing type.

What about the $200 enrollment deposit? I found the form to submit via mail, is there a way of paying online?

In the spring (last year it was early February) you will have the opportunity to list your housing preferences for both summer and fall housing. You will get an email telling you to log in and do this.

I believe that you have to do admissions deposit via mail since you had to send in the completed Enrollment Deposit Form (with your and your D's signatures, her SS# and other information on it) along with the check.

Congratulations on your daughters acceptance. Following the ups and downs of college acceptance is like watching a drama. My daughter is a junior and I don't know how I'll deal with it.

Congrats to your D, freem. On facebook, D noticed ALOT of kids from Jersey who were accepted to UCF. When is your D graduating HS? Graduation here is sometime in the third week of June and practically the next day we'll be flying down to Orlando to get her situated for Summer term. She is absolutely thrilled and seeing that acceptance online with her next to me even made me tear up.

JerseyShoreMom: Graduation for my daughter is June 17th and we will probably have to head down to Orlando on June 23rd or 24th for Orientation, which I am assuming will be the 25th and 26th. The worse part of all of this will be having to move out of the dorms for the 2 weeks in August, putting everything in storage and then turning around to come back 2 weeks later to move in again. By the way, where in Jersey are you from? We are from Cherry Hill.

We are in Toms River, right on the Barnegat Bay. My in-laws live in Naples so we might store anything there, if storage in Orlando or the hassle of it is expensive. Something else to think about. D already knows she wants a flat screen TV and a good bicycle for Summer. We're definately going to have to look into storage in Orlando. Let me know if you hear of any that will do a 2 week storage.
