Define "Hooking up"

haha i know i was being sarcastic... but the reason was that the word sex was in it so i guess it should have been "it has the word sex in it and you can get stds from it"

whatever, this is a dumb argument. Either way, just be safe whatever type of hooking up you are doing i guess

First, hooking up is more than making out. It probably should mean just sex but most people I know treat it differently, and probably for good reason. If a guy were to make out with a girl for some time, have more than half of clothing articles come out, and finger a girl I'd call it hooking up, even though no form of sex was involved. I think the best definition would probably be anytime undergarments come off(typically it should be from the bottom half but I wouldn't get mad at a guy if he called it hooking up just because he played with her titties for a while esp. if he was a freshman) since that establishes that it doesn't necessarily have to be sex but much more than only contact in the facial area. By junior year, hooking up is always some form of sex though.

Next, when anyone says they had sex, they mean vaginal intercourse. No one would get a blowjob or be eaten out and then say to someone afterward that they had sex. Sex always means vaginal intercourse unless some sort of modifier is used before it such as oral to indicate its contrary nature.

Hooking up means any one-time experience that involves making out or any kind of sex. The main thing about hooking up is the fact that it was a one-time thing and not a permanent arrangement (ie, boyfriend-girlfriend). I agree with the above posters that in college "hook up" generally means "sex," but whatever kind of sex that is is up to you. To me the beauty of the phrase is that it's ambiguous.

true, but i hate how people use it SOOO much to make it seem like they're getting so much action when most of the time they use it to mean making out. i mean, i don't care if their definition includes anything from making out to sex, but it's more the actual reason they have such a wide definition for the word...just to pose as porn stars or something. haha.
