Don't brag.

We all know that there are people out there who can't resist boasting about how much of "intellectuals" they are.

Don't brag.

We all know that there are people out there who can't resist boasting about how much of "intellectuals" they are.

Sounds like you mixed up intelligent and intellectual... :)

oops. i meant intellectual

but it can work... they're synonyms.

Obviously they're not.

well the dictionary lists it as a syn. could Websters be wrong?

Intellectuals are people who are well educated. Obviously, not every well educated person is intelligent.

I second aw5k, they are definitely NOT synonyms.
I'd put it the other way round: not every smart person is well educated.

and i disagree with both.

I think intellectuals are people who enjoy thinking, whether they are intelligent or not.

I'm thinking more along the lines as Kegon. However, those who enjoy thinking are generally going to be more intelligent.

I don't think an abstract noun and a regular noun can really be synonyms.

aw5k..Intellectuals are people who are well educated.

i think that's a very narrow way of putting it.

there are INTELLECTUALS out there who didn't/don't need to go to school, and some can't even be bothered to study. there are people who are, say, studious, but can't "see" through things. you know what i mean?

Nah, indigochild, I think your definition rather resembles intelligence. I would agree with the definition of intellectuals enjoying thinking. In general, I think that one refers to intellectuals as persons who are well educated, that is they know important history date, their culture, etc. Doesn't mean they are intelligent.

Intelligence is the measure of how one performs on an IQ test.

I think intelligence is one's ability to learn and their ability to think in regards to certain ways.

Intellectual is one who's well educated.

Wish I could say I'm one.

That's one of the worst definitions I've ever heard.

I believe intelligence is characteristic to human..Everyone has been given equal amount of intelligence...ones who use it more than others....turn up intellectuals ...

^people AREN'T born equal. genes play a large part in determining intelligence. I think the point is that intelligence is not the key to success, hard work is.

How about.. the capacity to change mankind for good, no matter how fast or slow you are.
