Define safety, match, reach

according to test scores.
For example:
above 75 percentile = safety
over 50 percentile = match

something like that^^^

super reach- only a miracle can save you 1% chance
reach- I would say a 15-25% chance because you dont qualify.
slight reach- 35% chance because your below average but still are legitament.
match- 50/50 chance. you are the mean of what they look for.
safety- you in. 90-100% sure

I wouldn't call over the 75th percentile a safety. A 770 verbal, 780 math does not make Brown University a safety :).

There's more to getting into a school than percentiles. I think Future's numbers are more along the lines.

75th was an example, that's why I'm asking all the CCers cuz I don't know...

give me your stats and ill tell you examples of schools that are reaches safeties etc.

SAT I: M800, CR660, W660 (2120/2400 or 1460/1600)
SAT II: 800, 800, 750
GPA: 4.0 UW (All As for most difficult course load)
Rank: 1 of 400
ECs: Pretty Weak

Ohh, I thought it was just your opinion, I didn't know you were asking.

Safeties are really hard to tell just by test scores. Just being in-state can make a school a safety with the same scores as someone out-of-state who considers it a match at the least. There are a lot of factors. It's really hard to generalize what can make a school a safety.

Ya, I think I didn't make it clear that I was asking, but ya, there are a lot of factors but I was wondering what kind of test scores qualify.

Harvard- reach (due to reading SAT)
Also MIT- reach

Duke, Univ. of Penn.- slight reach

UCLA, UCB, UF, Northwestern, UChicago, Georgetown- match

everywhere else like UCD, UCI, blah blah- safety

btw nice stats

No school besides community colleges will you have 100% chance of admission.

Safety = 95-99% chance

Safe match is like 80-90%

Match is more like 60-70% chance of getting in.

Slight reach = 40-50%

Reach = 20-30%

The OP's chance of getting into UCLA/UCB = Safe match (like 80-90%). It's very rare for valedictorians who scored very well on the SATs to get rejected from those schools.

Super Reach: <1%
Reach: 20%
Slight Reach: 40%
Match: 60%
Safe Match: 80%
Safety: 99%
Super Safety: >99%
