Thanks. Columbia's my dream college but I know how low the acceptance rate is and how unqualified I am compared to the rest of the applicants so its not gonna hurt my feelings if I don't get in. Tell me what you think.

i think you're a bit too hard on yourself...your scores are great and the only think i can see holding you back is the ranking but with a gpa of 4.11 and being 72 then you must go to a very competitive school. just keep in mind that a ton of kids applying have the same scores and stuff so as long as your essay is unique and well written then you should have just as fair a chance as any one else

haha im just trying to be realistic! thanks for your input =)

Well she still is in the top 10%. I think you've got a good shot. Not much more I can say.

Columbia is a reach but it is far from a longshot, just letting you know! ;)
Good luck this April!

1) Is Chinese is your native language? or you speak Chinese at home?
If the answer is yes for either question above, you need a another SAT II
test.
2) had better to no mention National Merit Commend - that stands for
50,000+ students, unless your are Semi-finalist

I'm CC'10 and I believe you have a great chance at getting in. All your stats are good, but I assure you that MANY others have stats just as good. Let the essays do their magic. That's what gives the admissions officers a "real feel" for who you are. I keep in touch with the admissions officers in Hamilton. It's all about letting the university know who you are--numbers and clubs don't show them this.

thanks birdman23, coming from a cc'10 i kno you know wut ur talking about. my counselor has told me to all the admissions officer in charge of my area and i have yet to do so. i'll be sure to do that asap.

it's strange. once you get to college, it seems much easier to identify what the admissions officers are looking for, mostly through observing the strengths and weaknesses of your peers. if you ever need help with ANYTHING, even essay revisions, PM me. it's strange coming back to college confidential--i've barely logged in since i was accepted. i'm back, though, looking for strategies to help my little cousin get into college

I think you have a very strong application. The only red flag that stands out is the class rank of 72, but that probably won't matter if you go to a competitive school.

thanks for offering the help but unfortunately i've already applied. i really wish i would've found out about college confidential a few months ago. hopefully someone else can take you up on that! :]

um....so you wouldnt have applied if people here said you shouldnt have?

oh no..i actually applied a couple of months ago. just waiting on the decision and i wasnt sure if i shuld just give up hope on it

Hmm giving up hope on something you're excited about because a bunch of strangers on a college forum told you to? Sounds like you could use a confidence boost. Columbia is an insanely difficult school to get into, yes... but at the same time, you never know what the college admissions officers are looking to see when they read your application, so applying, whether or not those of us on CC think you will get in, can never hurt.

um no i actually applied quite awhile ago already. im just waiting for my notification. ive already been accepted by some schools and i wanted to know if columbia was that much of a stretch for that i shuld start seriously considering some of the other places.

yeah i'm from plano too and if you take all honors, about 90% of the people from all your classes are indian or chinese....

but u have a good chance of getting in
