another guy torn between stanford, caltech, columbia, and uchicago.

the only thing that prevents me from going all out for caltech is the infamous social poverty of the place. 4 years of that might stunt me a little.. esp. in comparison to the millieu of a columbia.

what do you say, ben golub?

that's saddening.

aren't the folks here proof that caltech will be quite social?

Hmm...what would make you take Columbia or Chicago over Stanford, if I may ask?

me?--I was referring more to personal attachments :) Location itself (something more reliably permanent) is an important factor for me but I'd be very happy in Cambridge, New Haven, or Pasadena.

twentyfoursheep, in my experience, people tend to exhibit very different personalities on the internet than in real life. :)

But besides that, I don't want to make a judgement. I'm only voicing a concern others have echoed. Hopefully I can make it to prefrosh weekend and see some of you folks and we can play videogames for the last time in 4 years...

I think looking past US news rankings, Chicago can offer a competent education in maths (and also 'overall'). I'm not saying its "better" than Stanford (ive had no choice in fact but to have a thing for Stanford after so many friendly calls). There's also that whole cultural experience thing with Columbia, as well as the chance for a desert boy to see snow :)

Columbia is probably out of the question for me since I made the mistake of applying for regular physics in their College instead for applied physics in the SEAS college. I heard its tough to switch colleges and I'm currently not sure just what kind of science I want to do (which is another reason my Caltech admission acceptance isnt in the mail right now).

I know for sure I want to do some hardcore mathematics, physics, or electrical engineering. But I'm afraid to make a decision based on that alone, especially since caltech wins hands down in that case.

=p

You should all decline acceptance. I heard that no one likes Caltech anyway ;). Go elsewhere and give me your spot. I was so set on Caltech that I didn't even apply to MIT, and now I am waitlisted. Save me from more Papist education at ND! I'm a California dreamer!

California dreamer... hm... now that's my next username!
Thanks PutschCasusBelli :D

Hi all, I'm definitely going to caltech in the fall! (i just joined CC)
