Definition of a 'unit' in high school?

I'm applying to the University of Central Florida. On their website, it says I need "4 units of English" in order to apply. I've done a little searching on CC, and some people say that a unit means a year long course. However, my high school (I'm out of state) operates on a block schedule, meaning all of my courses have been one semester. Does that mean I will graduate with only 2 units, assuming I have taken 1 English class per year? Can someone clear this up for me?

A unit means a year for regular schedules. However, the intent of that is to show that you took some English every year, which you did, so you should be fine.
