Degree of Competitiveness?

How academically competitive is UCLA (particularly for Econ majors)? Is it as cutthroat as Berkeley?

As I see it, Biz econ is pretty competitive in your second and third year (mostly for econ 11 and 101) but then everyone gets job offers for after they graduate and chills out.

Do most students take 4 years to graduate?

yes, yes they do

is it competitive just to get into the major or is it competitive as in, once you're in the major, theres competition between students?

If you want to do Biz Econ, you need a specific GPA in the prereq. classes to get into the major. Because the classes are curved, you hence must compete with other students to get into the major.

Once your in the major, I think the classes get less competitive, in part because you are no longer competing to get into the major.

If you just want to do just Econ or International Econ, you do not have to meet as strict of a GPA requirement to get into the major, but you still have to take the same prereqs which are competitive.

Also, about how long it takes to graduate. If you don't switch majors or take unnecessary classes, you can actually graduate preety easily in three years.

For me, I didn't think that getting into the major was too hard, but I'm a transfer student, so I guess the requirements were different. I also don't agree that classes get less competitive once in the major. So far, they have gotten more competitive. That's just my experience though, other people may disagree.
