Ok so right now im in the sports management major (im going to be a freshman next year) because i didnt get into the business school as a freshman. I realize a sports management degree on its own is not too useful in finding a job after school. So what im trying to decide now is whether I should attempt to transfer into the business school after a year (assuming i make the necessary GPA which I believe I can if I comitt myself to it) and just stick with that degree (MBA for a business major seems redundent but i could be wrong) or stay in sports management and get an MBA afterwards (preferably at UT). I just wanted a few opinions on what some of you guys think would be best because this is a pretty tough decision.

Well if you want to work in the sports management field, then you should just get the MBA. If you see yourself as more of a business guy, do the internal transfer. You will probably be able to get into the Sports field, with a business degree.

you might want to check out the business minor. It is not called that, but you get a business certificate. You take approximately nine business classes. I think you need to take four classes to qualify, and five more upper division classes. Sports Mngt. with a business certificate might make for a marketable college experience. Just a thought.

Ive thought of that too. Not as a replacement for the MBA by any means but just as an introduction to some of the topics so I wont be woefully underprepared in grad school. Ive heard some negative things about that though, Ive heard around thats its not really a good program and the classes arent really taught by business professors. Its called business foundations btw.

From what i have read on these other threads, a business foundations certificate is worthless.

Business Foundation is not that great of a program. Think about it this way, why would UT allow students to minor in business when business majors have to go through Calc I&II? BF is NOT a true business minor so unless you need something to fill your resume with don’t bother because it is ridiculously easy and not worth the time.

Pickup another major, much better then BF…
