Degrees for Medical Field?

Hello! I was wondering what/which degrees would get me a job in the Medical field? I wouldn't want to be a doctor, and I've already applied to some schools for nursing.

For many of those jobs you are looking for a vocational degree. Often this can be done with just a AA degree. It should be easy to find this information. Spend some time looking of medical careers online. You should also be able to find some books at your local library discussing medical careers. I would suggest stopping by and having a chat with the reference librarian. BTW in terms of a career it can sometimes be a good idea to get a four year degree even if you can get started with just a two-year degree, since a four-year degree is often required for promotion into management.

“In the medical field” is awfully broad. Do you mean something like x-ray technician, occupational therapist, physician’s assistant, respiratory therapist, pharmacy technician, etc.? Those jobs require specialized training–sometimes less than a four-year degree, and sometimes more. This is the kind of question your guidance counselor should be able to help you with.

To counter Wallrus’ point, i know of several nurses who went onto Med school to become physicians. One friend started as an EMT, then a LPN, then RN, then MD, now is head doctor at the Emergency room in the largest hospital of a medium sized city.

But here was a discouraging article about the nursing field
[For nursing jobs, new grads need not apply - Jan. 14, 2013](For nursing jobs, new grads need not apply)

I should of been a little more specific. I’ve already been accepted to a school for Nursing (SUNY Plattsburgh), and I’m waiting to hear back for one more (Rutgers: NB.) Although, I did get accepted to the School of Arts and Sciences and School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers. I was asking what are some degrees that could land me a career in the medical field, so if I do attend Rutgers I could major in a degree that both interests me and will assist me in finding a job in medical. I really would like to attend Rutgers, and I want to do nursing as well, but I wouldn’t mind another career in medical.

That kind of doesn’t help. There aren’t really back doors into “the medical field.” If you want to be a nurse, you need training in nursing. If you want to work as a respiratory therapist, you need to train to be one. All of these occupations require certification and licensure. And in order to become certified and licensed, you need to complete a specified course of training.

@wallrus75: you realize you totally misread OP’s post, right? (“I wouldn’t want to be a doctor.”)
