I'm interested in going to graduate school for pharmacology after I finish my undergrad at Miami University.

I'll be a transfer student there in the fall from a community college and my major will be microbiology but I'm also interested in adding a molecular biology minor (which is only three additional courses) and a double major in Clinical Laboratory Science. The school offers a 3+1 (or 4+1) program where I'd still be taking the courses required for an A.B. in micro with a year-long internship at an affiliated hospital for the final year.

I have a year worth of research experience from Case Western in Chemistry and Pharmacology labs and I'll continue research there.

Will having a dual degree make me a more competitive applicant? I'd like to take a year off between undergrad and graduate school to put my CLS degree to some use at a local hospital (hopefully the Cleveland Clinic or local VA hospital) and then apply for graduate programs. How heavily is research looked at as opposed to GPA and GRE score? What about work experience?
