Degrees that will get you hired before you complete the degree

Hello,

I am about as desperate for money as you can get right now. I am EXTREMELY poor and I really need money now! I have been poor for about 6 years and I'm getting sick and tired of it! What are degrees that will get me hired and make a substantial amount of money while I am working on the degree?

For instance, I have strongly considered a computer science degree because I'm told that you could get a programming job part time for colleges and businesses and whatnot while you are trying to earn the rest of your degree and get paid $12-15 an hour for it. Apparently you can do this with computer science once you have taken up to the "data structures" class. I've also considered getting an accounting degree because I heard once you take a certain number of classes that you can get a job as an accounting clerk before you even finish the degree.

I don't have the luxury of going to school full-time because I am very poor and having to support myself working dead-end jobs. I have already received my A.A. but it was in psychology and I am now working on getting a B.A. or B.S. degree. I WILL NOT BE DOING PSYCHOLOGY THOUGH. Also, I am not considering engineering or nursing because those are limited access programs and would be hard to get into in my school. In addition I don't want to go and get an A.S. because financial aid will only pay for a bachelors degree at this point and would consider getting an A.S. degree like getting another A.A. basically. Please give me your advice.

You could always learn employable skills while you go to school, like web design/development. That would probably get you a job more quickly than computer science would. If your AA is in psychology, then you probably have about a year of prerequisite courses until you can take computer science classes. GlobalTraveller probably can answer this better than I

Yeah I know, that’s why I was sort of shying away from computer science. I just need money now!

become a tutor. depending on how in demand the subject is, and how experienced you are, it can pay 12-15 an hour too.

Interesting. So then it would be pretty advantageous for me to study computer science then because then I could wind up tutoring physics and math?

well, one would hope that you are able to tutor high school/freshman level physics and math already…

one assumes that, upon the receipt of a degree, you would go on to bigger and greater things…
