I was looking at D’s requirements in Degreeworks after the AP scores were posted and I’m confused about one thing (I’ve asked D to check with her advisor about it when she registers for Spring but I figured I’d ask here too.)

Under the foreign language/computer requirements, they have her 3 credits for AP Statistics, but the Italian 101 class she’s taking (and which will end up fulfilling that area when she takes Italian 102 in the Spring) is checked off under Humanities. Once she takes 102 will that get moved?

further confused, why is AP Statistics under foreign language/computer ?
Is her Degreeworks under the newest schedule? DSs does not yet reflect the new Engr. core requirements.

A&S students need 6 credits that are either C or FL.

AP Stats fulfills 3 credits of the C (computer) req’t.

I’m not sure, but I think you have to have 6 credits of one or the other (not 3 of C and 3 of FL, but I’m not sure). So, if that is so, you can have all 6 credits of Italian go towards FL requirement.

However, if you can have 3 credits of C and 3 credits of FL, then one of your D’s Italian classes can still count as a Humanities.

It will be a situation where she’ll have 16 credits of Italian to fulfill her IHP requirements; I’m assuming that once she meets the 6 credit threshold, Degreeworks will kick her AP stat credit over to electives. Does that sound right?

AL34: I agree that it seems odd that the Statistics credit gets the C designation since I think of it as a math. But per the catalog Statistics falls under the computer area. Shrug!

ST 260 is not considered to be a math class at UA, but is rather a statistics class with a computer component taught by CBA faculty rather than A&S faculty like a math course would be.

DegreeWorks is an excellent program, but it is not perfect. An advisor would recognize that your D will be fulfilling the FL/C requirement with Italian classes, but DegreeWorks is thinking that since she got credit in ST 260 first, she wants to fulfill the requirement with computer courses. Once she takes or possibly just registers for IT 102 and DegreeWorks is updated, it should list IT 101 and IT 102 as fulfilling the FL/C requirement.
