Delaware acceptance

I understand Delaware has become increasingly hard to get into, and they want scores such as 3.5 gpa and 1700-1900 SAT. How much of a chance do students just under these scores have a chance of getting in because they do accept around 11,000 students.

Is UDel one of the schools that looks at all 3 parts of the SAT ?

Yes, U of D looks at all three sections of the SAT. Here is information from their web site:

SAT Reasoning Test (based on the best sub-scores from all tests taken)

* Middle 50% of admitted freshmen: 1790-1980
* Middle 50% of freshmen admitted into the Honors Program: 2000-2150

I am nervous about getting accepted. I have a 27 ACT and a GPA of 88.9 plus I am out of state. Not sure which way it is going to go!

I sent my application to Delaware on December 1st and was just wondering how my chances were. I got a 1980 on the SATs, I am taking 5 AP clases this year, and i have an unweighted GPA of 3.3, weighted it's around 3.9. I am also in the top 20% of my class. Any replies would be appreciated.

jenna, you have a very good chance. I got into the honors program with a 30 ACT and 4.0 GPA

I agree. S was accepted last year with similar stats into the honors program with a generous merit scholarship. Good luck!!!

do you think a 3.8 UW and 1500/1600 warrants a pretty decent scholarship? I am a good musician (I play the tenor sax) and I am one of the top pole vaulters in New England...

why does commonapp say that the application for Udel is 12/01, but on the site it says 1/15 is the deadline?

on the site it says that 12/01 is the deadline for priority admission (scholarships, etc.).. does that still give me a chance to get any scholarships if i apply for the regular decision deadline of 1/15 ?

akarn- with those stats I think you have a good chance of a pretty decent scholarship. I assume you applied to the honors program by the deadline of 12/1? My son got admitted to the honors program with a $5000 a year merit scholarship with lower SAT and GPA. Good luck! By the way, he LOVES DELAWARE!

nycexsteve- As I understand it, the deadline for merit scholarship was 12/1. I would check with the admissions office if you think you might be eligible, and see if it's not too late to send your application.

nycexsteve - I called UD today with the same question. It seems that UD has extended its Honors and Merit deadlines until the end of this week; regular admissions deadline remains the same. Hope this helps!!

hey i recently applied to delaware but i wont be finding out my acceptance until midmarch. I just want to know what my chances are and especially my chances of getting some sort of merit scholarship.

3.92 gpa
all honors and ap classes except for english junior year and english senior year :x
however sats are extremely low- 1620 on all three and 1060 on math and verbal) :(
class rank- 8/420
vice president of interact service club (a lot of community service)
historian of national honor society
recording secretary of class council
and a bunch of other miscellaneous clubs (for example marching band, varsity indoor and outdoor track and field, etc.)
a couple of little awards from teh school and state, nothing huge.
asian male, school from ct, very diverse (idk if that has to do with anythiing)
3 letters of recommendation (1 really good one from my ap us history teacher, 1 from my honors adviser, and 1 from my english honors teacher sophmore year who attended udel)
ap classes junior year- chem and us history
ap classes senior year- stats, biology, psychology
and yea im just a regular kid who works hard, does everything asked of him and basing most of his college decision on finacial aid (one parent- low income)
uconn is other top choice, but i have my heart set on udel, and all other family members say to take out loans if necessary but i dont think it would be smart to take out like 20,000 dollar loans (assuming i get like 10,000 in fin. aid in grants or something)
general feeling of college-- hard to think about how hard i work doesnt amount to what/where i want to go.
uconn is good school though, i like it, its fun, challenging, and every fact says i should go there, and to take out like 7 thousand in loans (about 17 a year, and assuming fin. aid and scholarships cover 10) but my heart is set on udel?
comments? advice? anything?

Jimmybananas49:
Your GPA, class rank and extracurriculars are cetainly impressive enough for Delaware. Just curious why you think your SATs were so low? (which they certainly are in relation to your other stats). I don't know how that would look to the admissions committee. I hope you wrote (or i would suggest you do) some type of explanation re: the test scores.I hope they will look at the total picture which looks like you are a capable student who would be an asset to Delaware. Best of luck.

My chances?

I'm instate. Dad graduated from Delaware.

school: top private all-girls school in wilmington, de

started off bad but improved throughout

GPA: 3.25. (However, maintained a 3.6-3.8 since sophomore year, freshman year put a damper on this gpa)

TEST SCORES ARE BAD.

SAT: 460 M, 540 V, 550 W
ACT: 21 COMPOSITE, 20 MATH

took it twice but did worse 2nd time.

Devoted all time to swimming. However, don't want to swim in college. lots of volunteer work.

As a Delaware resident, I believe you will get into UD. Good luck to you!

Thanks so much!

When does IN-STATE applicants hear back? I applied before the 12/1 deadline!

everyone is mid-march

I got this from the UD website:

Another new feature of the UD Commitment to Delawareans is that, when you do apply for admission in the fall of your senior year, you will hear much sooner. Out-of-state applicants must wait until mid-March to hear. If, however, a Delaware resident has met the course and grade performance requirements of the UD Commitment to Delawareans, he or she will be notified of admission on a rolling basis starting January 1 of senior year. Admitted students will still have until May 1 to accept or decline our offer of admission. Rolling admissions provides in-state applicants a large window of opportunity to apply to the University of Delaware and assures them of an earlier and speedier review and response.

oh thanks so much!

I'll let everyone know how it goes!

Let's hope I get in!

idk why they were so low. im not really that smart, just a really hard worker, which is kind of explained in my letters of recommendation from my honors adviser (who wanted to emphasize how much i struggled in ap chem but ended with an A for the class) idk if thats a good thing or bad thing
do you think i still have a chance of getting in/getting any type of merit aid? i feel that i should have a pretty decent shot for how much i've work hard and how involved i've been and my rigorous classes, but idk if i stand out anymore than the next kid that might get merit scholarships because my sats are so low. idk any comments/advice?
