GPA 93.5 weighted
SAT: 1980 620cr, 690m, 670w
ACT: did not take
SAT 2s: us history 690, bio 660
School does not rank
Classes: all honors and ap world (5) ap stats(4) ap us (4), 4 more aps this year…
Honors program & 3000 merit award

what do you mean they accept around 11,000 students? According to collegeboard their freshman class has 3,700 kids.

They (any college) always accepts more than the size of the class because not everyone who is accepted goes there, therefore in order to fill a class of 3,700 they determine, based on their yield, that they need to accept about 11,000.

Only about 30% or so of the kids that are accepted actually enroll at UDel. All the rest enroll at other schools. 11,000 x 34 % = around 3,700

oh and…

ACCEPTED
college: CAS for Fine Art

GPA: 3.2 weighted
SAT: 2,140
school doesn’t rank
classes: 1 ap, but my school only allows you to take 3 in total throughout high school, and only 50% of students are allowed into those APs.
extras: about 80-90 hours comm. service, showing in established galleries, considered by most to have an outstanding portfolio, curated a gallery, just signed a 3-5 year contract to show around the globe, taken about 12 college courses, been figure skating for 10 years and a certified member of the US figure skating association, etc.

congratulations to everyone who was accepted! to those who were not, don’t feel bad; I’ve heard that they had a 15% acceptance rate this year. we’re all having tough times; I’m probably going to be rejected from my top choice as well :/

wow! that seems like a very low yield, no?

A 15% acceptance rate seems very unlikely. Doing the math, UDel would need to have had almost 75,000 applications to achieve that. No university in the country gets that many applications.

depends on if the yield truly is that low

According to their acceptance letter they had over 26000 applications this year. It says that this is the most gifted class they have ever admitted.

They would waitlist a lot of students if they thought the yeild would be that low just to be safe and I have only seen 1 person who has been waitlisted so far.

soccer me and many kids from my school were waitlisted…

my stats = 4.0 W, 3.6UW

Tons of Honors and AP, 1910 SAT decent EC’s good essay… im kinda surprised

It seems like they might have a big problem because most kids tht they are accpeting are waiting to hear from top schools and will choose them over UDel.

My D was waitlisted. The letter seemed to indicate that they waitlist about 500-600 people.Of those waitlisted almost 1/3 were excepted after review of May 1st deposits. This was based on prior years. They also indicated it was an exceptionally difficult year and they were not accepting people who would have easily been excepted in prior years.

yeah apparently they only accepted 3600 out of 26000 which would only mean like 7.2% were accepted. it’s insane. but i’d say a lot of people who were waitlisted will get in since a lot of people made their decisions earlier.

If they had 26,000 applications, I would surmise that the accepted about 10,000 kids.

Yes, just because there are 3,600 slots does not mean they only accept 3,600 students out of 26,000. I’m not sure but I think Harvard has a higher acceptance rate than 7.2% (or at least somewhere around there). I would agree with MBJ, they probably accepted around 10,000 or may even more than that. They understand that not everyone is going to accept their offer.

HLA0392:
I’m pretty damn shocked you got waitlisted. I know a few kids from my school who got in with ~3.8 GPA and pretty bad SATs/ACTs.

very true. i didn’t really get it either lol i was trying to figure out how that made any sense.

OOS - merit award $9,000 per year
GPA - weighted 4.5
ACT -30 Top 10% of very competitive public high school, all honors, gifted and AP classes;
Excellent recs, quiz bowl team, NHS, 4 years senator SGA, Pres. Youth Legislature,
french immersion school in summer, job at university in science research lab, JSHS, lacrosse junior & senior year

After reading all your stats, I have to say that I am absolutely thrilled that D got accepted. I honestly believe now that we did some of the “exra” things right:

she applied early (October)

she emailed her admissions counselor to express interest (an email after we visited that was very specific to why she was interested in the school, another in the middle of this school year)

she focused on a few EC’s during HS, stayed committed to them and showed that she is extremely well-rounded

As thrilled as she is that she is that she is going there, she was ticked off last night to see that a few of her friends got in, were accepted to HONORS and got $$$! And not sure than any of them will attend! However, I just saw (on a FB group from her HS) that a few kids were waitlisted (which I was surprised about) – so she really should feel great about being accepted to UDel - it’s a wonderful accomplishment! I love the personalized acceptance package - we didn’t get this from any other schools!

So if you were waitlisted and really want to attend, hang in there. It may still work out.

Hope to meet some of you at admitted students day on April 10!
