I applied to Delaware but I didn't get my application in on december 1st. Is this an issue?

burtonswluver: The Dec 1st deadline was for the honors prgram and merit aid consideration. Reg deadline is Jan. so you should be fine. If you were looking for the honors program and merit aid, I'd call the admissions office right away and see if they will review your app. with that group. Good Luck!

jimmybananas: Definitely think you have a good shot of getting in. The merit aid, I'm not so sure about. maybe you can get an idea if you call someone at the school in that dept. Good Luck to you and sit tight!

thanks I appreciate it:)

My friend applied to University of Delaware and most people have heard back from them but he has not. Tell me if you think he will get in.

in-state resident
3.5 gpa
no honors or AP classes
junior class president, senior treasurer
cross country & wrestling all four years, spring track for two years
did not even break 1000 on his SATs BUT he is dyslexic.
some volunteer hours but not many
& a part-time job in the summers only

arushhh01, i think your friend will get in!

I don't know if he willl...their not Delaware standards but instate applicants have a very good shot.

What does everyone else think?

I think there is some chance that the student will be admitted to the main campus, but there is also a possibility that he or she will be admitted to the 2 year associate in arts program first.

^Very true.

Do OOS applicants need generally higher GPA and SAT than in state kids to garner acceptance ?

If you go by SAT statistics, the answer is yes. For example. compare the Math SAT scores for the following entering freshmen for this year:

AA students - Delawareans (only) 488

Newark Campus - Delawareans 579, Out of State 623

You can read the rest of the facts and figures here:

Facts and Figures

I am getting nervous about getting in. I really hope that i do get in

Do you think if you applied before the Dec. 1st deadline and still have not heard, that is a bad sign? Oh, and you are in-state.

All decisions go out together in March, including the Honors progarm and merit aid awards. So unfortunately you need to be patient and just wait. Though I might have read somewhere that in-staters are now going to be notified earlier. You could call the admissions office to ask that question. Good Luck!

What about me?
Out of state, I live in Jersey
3.1 GPA Unweighed, with a few AP classes and Middle College Courses, so probably like a 3.4-5 weighed
Critical=530
Math=600
Writing=530

And I have coached youth basketball every year since sophomore year.

It is not useful to compare in-state vs out of state.

For those who are not living in Delaware: read this Commitment to Delawareans

And concerning SAT scores: read this Commitment to Delawareans

And the AA students listed in the facts and figures. That is a program available only to students in Delaware, and it is not at the UofD campus. It gives weaker in-state students a chance to prove they can handle UofD through a community college program. If they finish the AA with a certain GPA they are automatically accepted into UofD to finish the full degree. It is also for students who do want to save money, because it is completely free.

I am really nervous i really want to go to udel but am nervous if i am going to get in
i have a gpa of 3.57 all 3 section SAT of 1710 i am co-caption of both my highschool and club swim team i was part of the mock trial team and was a lifeguard over the summer for two years. I volunteered with the special olympics.
what do you think my chances are?

chances are approximately 0.2%

swimstroke I think your odds are better than .2% I hope that was a joke. I was told on my visit there that they want to see a positive trend in grades from freshman through junior years,they also want to see that you took a competitive schedule for your particular high school. They also said your senior year classes are very important they dont want to see you slacking off. Good luck, you never know. Let us hear from you when you get in.
