Delaware Class of 2018 Acceptances

@lefty1 Today the seniors wore their “college” jerseys to school. My son was shocked. There were 10 kids going to Delaware. Last year, there was one. And that doesn’t count how many might have been accepted. Think is HS has about 230 or so seniors. Private all boys school.

Parents: just wondering what’s going on in your home with your soon-to-be-Udel student. Is she/he scared? excited? nervous? anxious? My S is definitely nervous, I think. I see him looking up things online like "secrets to college success’…

DoubleDel;
There are many adjustments students need to make in moving from HS to college, some ot them more significant than others. One thing your son will need to adjust to, coming from an all male HS, is related to the fact that the majority of students at UD (55% verses 45%) are female, but i am sure you are aware of this already. Perhaps this will not be a significant issue for your son but in any event will probably require some degree of adjustment (hopefully in the positive direction). IMHO, as I noted in my previous post, the key to success in college is the development and utilization of good study habits right from the start of college. If a student is able to do this they usually will find that they can fit in a number of social activities to enrich their college experience. Trying to do it the other way around can be very difficult to successfully accomplish. I think most HS grads experience all the emotions you mentioned, our D certainly did, but as long as we support them to the best of our abilities things usually turn out ok. Best wishes to your son at UD.

Sent in the deposit for DS as an OOS from NH. Honestly - hoping he’d see the financial sense in Binghamton, but I understand the final decision from his perspective.

So far unfocused and undecided in terms of course of study. Too busy finishing up HS to think much about the future. We’ll see.

FWIW,
Regular Admission
No Honors
NH
Undecided
GPA 3.5 UW; SAT 2030 Superscore (CR 680; M 680; W 670)
Merit Aid: $7500

Oh - FWIW, we had the damndest time navigating UDel’s website and attempting to pay the deposit. Hopefully their IT/ComSci business unit does not reflect on the competence of the rest of the school. Egads.

My D is very excited about starting her life at UD. She’s a little nervous too but since it’s only 25 miles down the road I think that helps offset some of the anxiety. She has already found a roommate via the facebook page. They met for the first time at Decision Day and seem to have a lot in common. I think they’ll be a good fit. The two of them are already planning how to decorate their room!
As far as acceptances at my D’s high school - she knows about a dozen kids going to UD and has not heard of anyone NOT being accepted. We are in-state but I’m sure there are some who didn’t get in - they’re just not in her circle of friends. Tomorrow is “college jersey” day at her school, so maybe she’ll have more info after that.
Has anyone signed up for NSO yet? We are all set for June 18!

@ Regiolanthe that is such a surprise that you had troubles navigating the site. D is a junior and in the 3 years she has been there I have never had problems with the site with respect to paying bills or registering for anything. S has been accepted and decided to attend and again no issues paying deposit or filling out any of the forms. In fact I have never had any issues with the school and my D has had to deal with dropping courses and switching things around a bit and even when we have overpaid they have always resolved the issue within 48 hours. If I was to point out any concerns about the school this wouldn’t be one of them…Hmmm

@dogsrthebest‌ We had no problem either! Actually, it was very easy! Congratulations to the incoming class of UD 2018!’

@jberav thanks for the heads up about NSO… We got a welcome post card and it said info would be coming soon. I haven’t even bothered to look online yet but planned on it. BTW… Family weekend is set for Oct 10-12th so any one out of the area book your hotels now! I booked mine about 3 weeks ago and the Marriott on campus was already full! We stay at the Holiday Inn Express on Christiana Drive… it’s about 5 mins away but reasonable and only 5 years old. Very clean and full of UD people during that weekend so it’s a nice option if nothing on campus is open. Today being decision day our school also has all seniors wear their school shirts… We are up to 11 we know of attending UD this year… Let’s see what today brings!

@Regiolanthe I’m sorry you had trouble with the site! I am the worst with computers but I got my deposit in easily… I kind of remember being nervous the first time around with mine. The most confusing thing I’ve dealt with was looking up my daughter’s transcript. I couldn’t figure it out to save my life. Meanwhile my sister inlaw who was brand new to the school pulled up her daughter’s in 2 seconds! lol! They do have great support if you have any questions and they are always willing to make it very easy to give them money! lol!

So excited for our kids! My son has had an incredible senior year so far, good academics, great athletics and most importantly a strong involvement with his school and his friends who are all amazing kids. It’s incredible how this great experience has gotten even better once he committed to UD and has his “plan” set. I am just going to savor every minute of this time in his life. I will be looking for an “empty nest” support group in the fall! lol!

@mwallenmd. Thank you SO much for your feedback. You know, of all the things I have been worried about, I didn’t even think about the main point you mentioned. You are so right. My S is moving from 4 years in an all-boys environment to…the real world :). Ha! And, actually I didn’t know that there were more F than M. Ha! again! My S did mention to me that his major was predominantly F. Interesting. Thank you again for circling back and providing insight.

@jberav and others - where/how do you sign up for NSO?

@doubledel if you log into your child’s portal the link is now there on the right just under the deposit, housing, etc…

@lefty1 thank you! @DoubleDel I was wondering the same thing! I’m going to check the portal today and sign up. It wasn’t there yesterday but we just paid the deposit on 4/30.

did anyone get off the waitlist yet?

No announcements on this thread yet. My best guess would be that we should be hearing something by the end of this week.

My daughters on the waitlist, she’s starting to lose hope. I hope for her sake she gets in but for me I save 22,000 on the instate college she chose.

Anyone receive updates or get off waitlist? Portal changed, does not say wait-list.
At this point my S gas given up.

On the Waitlisted thread it was reported that someone on the waitlist received a decline Email from UD. They then contacted UD and were told that they were not going to be taking anyone off the WL because of the larger than expected number of acceptances they had received from students regularly accepted. I have not heard of any other confirmation of this. Did your S get any type of similar or any other email from UD? What did the Portal change to?

This is 100 percent true I unfourtunaly know for a fact totally done

I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SAY THIS LAST WORD FOR THE RECORD AND FOR THE FUTURE THE WAY UD HANDLED THE WHOLE ADMISSIONS SITUATION THIS YEAR WAS DISRESPECTFUL TO OUR YOUNG STUDENTS WHO WORK HARD AND DESERVE BETTER FOR SOME TO GO 8 MONTHS WITH REAL SOLID ANSWER AND TO BE GIVEN THE KIND OF RUN AROUND THAT SOME GOT THESE GREAT KIDS WERE GIVEN IS UNFORGIVABLE AND SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO CHANGING THE SYSTEM BECAUSE NOBODY SHOULD BE PUT ON HOLD FOR THAT LONG THESE KIDS HAVE WORKED HARD THEY DESERVE ANSWERS AND THEY DESERVE BETTER !!!
