Hey guys;
I’m a current student at UD and I like it well enough but i’m thinking about transferring to another school closer to the city because I am more of a city-minded (love arts, diversity) and UD has too much emphasis on sports and greek life. Thoughts on which school is the best? It would be good to get a full comparison of academics, tuition, social life, campus, culture, etc.
Academically, it’s Delaware>Temple>Drexel, although I can see the appeal of Philly. All three are very solid schools. I would think Temple would be the best socially, and certainly has the diversity that you’re looking for.
It depends on your academic area of study of which is better academically. What is your major?
I prefer Drexel, but they’re all around the same overall. Honestly I’d say just stay at UDel if you don’t hate it, it’s better academically than the 2 & will probably be much cheaper than the 2 since it’s in-state.
Academically UDel, Drexel=Temple(Depends on the major/field of study which one is better, they are ranked around the same)
What’s your area of study?
Drexel is the most expensive, followed by Temple(This may fluctuate due to Temple being OOS & Drexel being private, though overall Temple will probably be slightly lower)
Here’s my comparison of Drexel vs Temple(I applied & visited these schools)
Drexel:
+Mid Sized(Around 15,000 Undergrad)
+Has smaller class sizes
+Is in a better area(University City is home to Drexel,UPenn & USciences, is a slightly closer to Center City & feels more city-like than Temple’s area)
+More financial aid
-Expensive
Temple
+Large Sized(25,000 Undergrad)
+Has a bigger, more traditional campus-like feel
+Lower tuition price
-In a bad part of Philly(North Philly is one of the most dangerous areas of Philly in terms of crime & a block from the campus the houses looked abandoned & there were some houses boarded up. it’s also 15 minutes from Center City, in general the area is a bit sketchy)
Both:
Diverse
D1 Sports
In Philly
If you want a more traditional, campus-like feel than Temple will be a better fit. If you want a more interactive, city like feel than Drexel will be a better feel.
Are you thinking about UPitt? I’d recommend UPitt over all of these. UPenn’s a great school, definitely recommend over these, but that will be a reach.
As far as I remember, Temple is in a pretty bad area, it’s in North Philly. You’ve gotta think about your safety if you’re on campus late studying or living near campus. Honestly it’s better to live south of center city or in west philly by drexel anyways lol. The link I attached has some interesting little stats suggesting UD students tend to graduate the fastest but Drexel students make the most. Also I wonder why people say academically that Temple is better than Drexel. UD seems to be ranked better than both and Drexel ranked slightly above Temple.
To be fair, I would have kept Temple on my own list but my girlfriend (whose godmother lives in Philly and is herself from Bethlehem, PA) said she’d worry nonstop about me if I went there
Agreed.
Thanks for the help! I actually did look at UPitt; it was my second choice but i chose UD because Pitt was too close to home and UD gave me more scholarship money. I have however, decided to stay at UD since it is a good school and I have friends there and although it is a traditional, very suburban campus, it is easy for me to access the city if I want it. Great info though!
Good choice. I’m glad we could help
