So I got a letter from ETS (no idea) saying that I used mechanical pencils, which is the reason they kept delaying my score up until and are considering to cancel my score.
They also require that I respond to them before Nov. 28. How anal can the Collegeboard get? Because using mechanical pencils is a valid excuse to cancel my score..I know that I violated a rule, but wow, that's just crap.

too late to call them so I just emailed them, and they didn't tell me how to respond to them, so I basically went into servile position and basically said "please don't cancel my score I know I violated a rule but it has been my understanding from teachers, students, and even proctors themselves that mechanical pencils have been alright for the test" and other BS. is it ok to cuss on this site? I feel the need to. ****

Ultra lame, dude. I can't believe this'd happen. Anyway, uh, I think you'll be all right...as long as you show your "remorse", you'll probably be fine.

lol. it's ur own fault that u used mechanical pencils.i mean come on,u're risking urself when the instructions explicitly stated that "ONLY #2 PENCILS ARE ALLOWED"
why did u use mec. pencils anyway?

Just curious, why do you guys use mech pencils anyway? The traditional ones are much nicer to fill in the ovals because they're more blunt. :) You have to scrape away for twice as long with a mechanical pencil.

lol, I used mechanical pencil to write my essay. About half way through, the proctor came to me omniously told me that I need to use a pencil.
Does it even matter? I used machanical pencils on me PSATs and I still got my score.

Ren, go take a poll of all students who take the ACT or SAT. I bet that a good portion of them use mechanical pencils. Even my proctor said it was fine. Students, teachers, everyone don't mind mechanical pencils, yet I seem to be one of the only victims.
Even the proctors and that I took two previous tests with the same pencil. so, entirely my fault? Is it fair that I might be denied by 3/4th of my colleges because of a pencil mistake? If anyone agrees to the canceling of my score, they need to re-evaluate their lives, fast.

Btw, is there anything in the regristration or the SAT rules that state that my scores will be canceled if I use different pencils? for ****'s sake it's not like I stuffed a camera in them.

It's definitely stated that you should not use mechanical pencils. If your proctor stated that you could use the mechanical pencil, then why not bring that up? Anyways, might as well register for the December test now.

i've used mechanical pencils and it never affected my score. Now I do all the scratch work with a lead pencil and bubble in with regular pencils

yea everyone uses mechanical pencils and things never went wrong. but did u realize that u're risking yourself??? what if the lead u used didn't have enough lead?? the machine wont recognize ur answers??? it's just plainly stupid.i even heard my proctor loud and clear "#2 PENCILS ONLY"
it's like gambling and cheating, some get away; some suffer =]
