I know that the vast majority of schools allow first-year students to defer their enrollment for up to a year, contingent upon the presentation of a valid reason.
I was just wondering if colleges have any sort of standard policy on Peace-Corp volunteering. The term of service for Peace-Corp work is 27 months, which is obviously longer than the one year deferal most schools allow.
Does Peace-Corp volunteering have to come after college, or are there exceptions to the one-year deferal option? Would it ever be possible (for example) for a student to complete two years at college, volunteer with the Peace Corp, and then return after to complete junior and senior years? Would this involve re-applying to the school?
I was just curious about this and wasn’t sure where to post my question, but thank you for any insight you might be able to offer.
