deliverin' a monologue

Just wondering:

I've done acting work before, but I haven't done it in depth to know how to do it at an audition (HA.) How does one tehcnically deliver a monologue?

First,i know it's very very vital to read the play to see why the character is reacting or saying what he/she is, and how you should depict it.

That's about it. I can feel it out but i'm not confident. any help?

the question is hard to give a straight answer to...
what is the monologue? if you tell me what it is I might be able to give you some advice on it.
you can PM me if you want help.

I've only been in a play once, so my advice may not be vital, but never, ever picture the audience in their underwear. It just makes you giggle and lose your train of thought. Ugh.

^I'll agree with that advice...

but that's another thing where it depends on the monologue. some require you to talk to the audience, while others you should completely ignore the audience.

in general, even if you need to interact with an audience you should imagine the audience. pick spots on the wall or something, so that you aren't making eye contact with the auditioners (that's one of the differences between performing in a show and auditioning).

Yup, I'd tell you the story but I don't want to put you off.

^Vegan's right; just follow the basic advice most people know, and no underwear ever.

also, pretend the auditioners arent there. pretend you're by yourself, in your bedroom. always helps make me less nervous. im always alot better practicing something than i am at auditions so i just pretend its a practice session.

collegelyfe4me, thanks! i (believe it or...not) have forgotten about the "Act like nobody's watching" motto. It definitely helps with nerves.

vegan, i will pm you in a few!

np ten char

I just sent you a ridiculously long detailed PM. hope it helps!

but I did forget some general audition things you may or may not know...
When you begin announce your name, and both the title and author of your piece.
then take a few seconds pause to transition into character, before beginning.
after finishing, hold your focus for a beat without changing, then break character and finish with a strong "Thank you."

veganactress,

Hiya there. i loved your pm, it was b-e-a-utiful :D. I did give a response so i hope it's not too blah i don't know lol. we can talk more on pm maybe?
