Your dad is right about the hard drive speed and wrong about the video card.

On the 600m you can upgrade the video card to a 64 MB card if you go to the right place on the site. It's about $75... what I did, because I wanted to be able to do some light gaming on it.

I just ordered mine this week, a 6000. I was deciding between that or the 600m. The only reason why I got the 6000 was the hard drive speed. I knew I wanted to get 60gb hard drive, and the difference in speeds between the 600m and 6000 with a 60gb hd is enourmous.

600m: 4200rpm rotational speed and 2mb buffer cache

vs.

6000: 7200rpm rotational speed and 8mb buffer cache

The 6000 is basically twice as fast. That's the only reason why I got it over the 600m.

hey for people who own the 6000, is the right part of the computer (where the air vent is) is warmer then the left vent? Cause i can feel cool air coming out of my left vent but not my right, and it is cooler than the right. Don't know if because the hard drive is on the right or something wrong with my computer.

I wouldn't have made a decision based on the hard drive alone. For one, you could get the cheapest drive and buy a replacement (most likely even cheaper than dell offers the upgrade). I wouldn't go with the 7200 anyway, as it burns through the battery too quickly. Somewhere between 42 and 72 is best I think.

I"m also trying to decide b/w these 3: 600m, 700m, and 6000..or just not have a laptop at all

I have the 6000 and I love it. It's a little big though, and I don't plan on carrying it around all the time.
