So... typical story. Getting a laptop as a birthday/graduation/college gift. I just don't know what I want.

Looking through things, I have kind of narrowed down my two choices:

Dell Inspiron 15''
Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T4200
Vista
3GB Memory
160GB Hard Drive
Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop Details

Macbook
Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR2 Memory
120GB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
Standard keyboard
White polycarbonate shell
Student Discount - Apple Store (U.S.)

Obviously there is a HUGE difference in prices... but considering my parents basically let me believe I was going to DC for my birthday then decided "Nah, we don't want you to," I'm going to milk the guilt trip. I am shameless.

But yeah. Help?

I’d go with the Mac (I have the white one) but see if you can get them to agree to an upgrade to the 250 HD.

I’d go for the Mac unless you really like Vista. If you do go with a Dell, get a higher-spec processor. If you can wait until the fall, consider getting a Core i5 processor when they come out.

out of those 2, the mac easily.

If I were to get a dell it definitely would not be an inspiron.

^^^ I agree with the above. Mac offers much more when comparing (I have a toshiba and have never used a mac. I wasn’t allowed to get one :() it to the dell.

Those two computers really aren’t comparable. A Pentium Dual-Core isn’t anywhere close to a Core 2 Duo. Compared to my friends’ Core 2 Duo-equipped laptops, my suitemate’s Pentium Dual-Core laptop is significantly louder and hotter. That’s saying something considering that one of my friends has a second-generation MacBook Pro, which are known to run at pretty high temperatures.

If you are willing to pay that much for a mac why dont you look at the dell xps m1330? Its about the same size as the macbook (not the pro) and it looks really nice. Also dell is having a sale right now and i think you can get the xps with the same graphics card as the one in the mac (not sure though)

If money is not a problem than the the xps m1330 is a lot better than an inspiron.
