Dell Laptop Batery recall

does anyone know which specific model of battery there is a recall for?

I haven't heard yet but apparently the same batteries (from Sony) were also used in HP and Apple laptops.

<a href="http://articles.news.aol.com/business/_a/dell-to-recall-41-million-laptop/20060814181709990031?ncid=NWS00010000000001%5B/url%5D">http://articles.news.aol.com/business/_a/dell-to-recall-41-million-laptop/20060814181709990031?ncid=NWS00010000000001</a></p>

This article has some info on which computers are effected by this - there may be more added - HP and Apple as well.

All from the bottom of the barrel companies

^^^^^ You mean Sony??

Apparently I think that the batteries were supplied to Dell by Sony.

Pull out your battery and see if it says Sony anywhere on it. If it doesn't then your in the clear. I had to check mine.

No not just sony

HP, Dell, Apple

Not to fond of these companies

Go to the official recall site to see if you are affected:
<a href="https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/%5B/url%5D">https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/</a></p>

The model number of the battery is actually on the back of it, so you have to detach the battery from the laptop to view it (at least I did anyway). I got lucky, my model number is C5447 while C5446 is being recalled.

Apparently the defect stems from Sony (they manufactured the batteries), and will affect multiple companies beyond just Dell. So be on the lookout even if you aren't a Dell customer. EDIT: Just realized I was about the fifth person to say that, sorry for the repitition.

Whew...not mine. Thanks for the info though.

its not apple computers cuz none have blown up yet. thats just dell's so far.

i laughed when i saw this considering they recalled batteries from almost every model of dell, over a 1 year span.

Literally all of them. 4.1 million batteries. Dell stock tomorrow is going for a roller-coaster ride!

To find out if your battery requires replacement, go here:

<a href="https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Identify.aspx%5B/url%5D">https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Identify.aspx</a></p>

Neither of my batteries are on the list. My mom and dad just told me about this last night.

It was nice to find out that I wouldn't have to mess with any of that mess.

Apple is bottom-of-the-barrel?

You have a funny notion of crap, Vinny. But something tells me you just say that to rile people up.

And there have been several powerbook explosions too...don't know where the information that no apples have blown up came from.

No,No. Most DO NOT SAY SONY on them. They only say Dell and Made in Japan or Made in China. Check the link above to check the ID numbers. They were made by Sony for Dell, BUT THEY ARE DELL BRANDED so check the list.

Even if your model is on the list, that doesn't mean your actual battery is being recalled. One of our laptops had a model number listed, but when we entered the PPID number of that battery it wasn't on the recall list. Do check your battery as Dell will send you a new one. This is not the forst dell battery recall, we had one a few years ago that was replaced.

If you think Apple computers are High end you, honestly have little or no experience with other brands and systems. Apple makes there computers out of the cheapest parts, the cases flex big time, the parts are all very fragile. I dont even use windows, but the OSX microkernel destroys the BSD bame and is made for Idiots who think poor windows is to hard. Id also like to mention apples horrible support for there products, Apple is a company that even when you have a warrenty on your product they will still get your money some how. Such as have a dead Ipod that need to be repleaced, They will say Oh sorry we need to charge you a $40 recycling fee, to give you a new Ipod, Its the same for other products like the notebooks, just a hells lot more expensive.

Apple is Bottom of the Barrel

Oh and they do explode also

Vinny,

I forgot how you can't help but respond to every post with some sort of ad hominem attack. It makes talking to you such a pleasure.

For the record, I've owned a Thinkpad (IBM), Toshiba, Dell, and my current Macbook. I have yet to experience your so-called "fragility," though I'm not wont to test out my computer's limits willy-nilly. My support so far has been quite good, and I have no problem working in Windows. In fact, I bet I'm more proficient in Windows than you are. However, Mac OS has some strengths that Windows doesn't, and I've enjoyed those so far.

Oh, and a dead iPod has nothing to do with the laptops. Stop conflating the two products.
