Demarest Hall

Hello! I just signed up for housing and my first choice was Demarest Hall on College Ave for their special interest program in art. Does anyone know anything about Demarest Hall? Reputation? Have you lived there? Etc. And do you think I'll be able to get in since I just registered and it's kinda late compared to other incoming students who signed up a few months ago. I feel as though it could be in high demand since it's on College Ave or it also might not be in high demand since it seems like it's only interested in from particular students. Anyone know?

Thanks!

the stereotype that i always hear is that demarest is full of druggies, but i wouldn’t take that too seriously.

apparently college ave fills up fastest, it doesn’t matter what hall.

Ahh hopefully there aren’t too many druggies. Maybe it’s just a stereotype for the art/music students that live there.

Demarest is only for those who choose special interest housing, not people who want to live on college ave in general so I think it’s different with filling up. I’m just not sure if it’s the same or less.

they can’t all be druggies, you’ll meet all types of people which is what’s really cool about rutgers and college in general :)

demarest looks really nice from the outside, but i’ve never been inside.

have you known anyone who lived at Demarest?

no, i lived on busch so most of my friends were from there.

but, if you get placed in demarest, i’m sure you’ll enjoy it. this past year i lived in special interest housing for first-year engineers and it’s great living with people you have so much in common with :)

Hello! I’m the Visual Arts section leader for the coming academic year. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at parklol@eden.rutgers.edu. Demarest has a great community and we’re planning lots of events and programs for next year, including snow sculpture contest (providing we get enough snow fall near a weekend), resident art exhibits during our coffee house performances, and group trips to the Zimmerli after hours.

As far as the wait, there’s usually a waiting list, but there is a good chance you’ll be able to come in. There might be someone still looking for someone to replace them in Demarest that already has a room. e-mail me for more info.

Sincerely,
Cat
