How big are the Cornell Democrats? (Although I'm sure they will increase as '08 comes closer). Also is there a good chance that Obama and Clinton and Edwards will visit? I wanna see all of them speak (especially Obama and Clinton...and moving out of Massachusetts makes this harder! lol)! Is anyone here in the club? Do they know if such events are being thought of? I just hope that Ithaca isn't too out of the way for the candidates. I'm hoping 60,000 people plus people from areas close by will be able to draw them!

yes of course... this is just the number of ppl in the club…otherwise I think there are way more students!!! I just thought more ppl would join lol
"Politically, the city's population has a significant tilt towards liberalism and the Democratic Party. "

Lot better than at the college I'm at right now. It was 5 people last year from what I heard, but this year we have 35 people registered but only about 10-15 people go to each meeting. So that is a crapppp load in Cornell's club to me lol. That sounds great! We can probably get a lot of stuff done!

Ummmmm y r there 650 Republicans in comparison? Something needs to change it seems. More promotion of the club I guess cuz there are DEF more democrats than republicans in higher education...

Well are course there are more dems, its a university. lol

One thing I noticed about Cornell when I visited is that there is a large political presence (maybe because it was earth day :-p) but its not nearly as 'shove it in your face' as a school like Columbia.

As for me, I may be conservative, but I will probably not be joining either Repubs or Dems. Its too polarizing if you ask me. If there were a college libertarians I may show up to a few of those meetings though and see what they have to say.

Damn shoulda went to Columbia ;) jp...sorta...lol. I just hope these Dems r really active cuz I'm friggin pumped for '08. The midterms were so awesome...and I'm at college in Mass right now which is like Liberal heaven. Hope NY is like that too! (although w/ people more opinionated...I've had some of the stupidest debates and political conversations at this college lol. Way too many people just don't care. That's one of the reasons I want to go somewhere more intellectual because politics def gets me passionate. Cornell here I come!) - lol yesterday one of my friends went "I hate Clinton!" I went "why" he goes "she was just first lady a few years ago!" and I go "ok...that can't be the reason you hate her right? What political stances do you disagree with" silence lmao

I have a feeling I know what you mean, except from the opposite side of spectrum. Around here, it seems people are either conservative via heritage, and blindly follow republicans, or democrats because thats the cool thing to do. I know very few people that have any reasonable arguments to back up their opinions. Most of them don't like Bush because he "hates black people" and can't manage to cite anything else he has done wrong... of the many things to choose from.

It's okay though, because politics have been getting on my nerves lately. I just get sick of mindless banter and yelling over each other, which is about all I can find unless I discuss theoretical politics, which are much more interesting to me at this point.

Ya if people hate Ted Kennedy it's because he accidently killed a girl who was in the passenger side of his car when he crashed into the water when he was a teenager (no1 mentions his politics). People don't like Kerry becuase of his MISINTERPRETED Iraq solder comment...no1 mentions his politics. People who don't like Deval Patrick mention his expensive car and curtains...not his politics (ps sum1 who's Dad was working for the people who offered him the cars said they offered him 2 different cars and he picked the better one...probably like anyone else would do). I could give soooo many more examples. I wanna talk politics not stupid gossip! I also like debating the issues but it seems like people don't have well formed thoughts about them and usually just tell me they don't want to debate anymore after I back them into a corner. So annoyinggggggg (ps Deval Patrick is my homeboyyyy)

Politics definitely rocks lol it’s just such a pity to see how some ppl don’t care or can’t take a stance…I really don’t get it lol and I just hate how some take up moral or ethical stances and try to make them into valid points of argumentation…so pathetic lol i’m currently a House intern, so I get to watch a lot of debates and I still see ppl doing that…annoys me sooo much lol

Ok soo based on some new stats in TIME…it seems that support for Obama is increasing more rapidly than Clinton, but it’s way too early to say for sure!

Do we know how Clinton vs. Giuliani would go (like stats or polls?)? I think it'll end up Obama vs. Giuliani in the end to tell u the truth. I'd like Obama or Clinton or Edwards (mostly Obama now tho). I like Clinton but I just don't c her winning the ultimate presidency. I do c Obama winning tho. Obama is also my homeboy. Him n Deval r in my crew...we wreck sh!.t lol but anyways, Obama is a lot more personable than Clinton from what I've seen although I've never seen Clinton in person. Democrat in the white house '08! You watch!!! (I'll DEF be helping out that campaign!)

Don't worry Figgy, I can give you enough reasons not to like some of those people, but I am not gonna do it here. Maybe I will run into you at Cornell one day :-).

btw, I don't think Giuliani has a shot at the republican ticket. He is considered a 'liberal' republican and has little experience outside of mayorship (by this I mean he hasn't won anything other than a mayorship). I also think the jury is out on Obama, I know very little about him and that is what the problem is for a lot of people. He is very new on the scene, and it seems like the people I know that support Obama know hardly anything about him. I get the feeling he may be a one hit wonder but I can't back that up with anything substantial; its just a thought.

Although it would be nice, realistically, I can't picture Obama or Clinton winning it enough electoral votes if they reach election 08. Most whites in the mid west or south only vote Republican. They wouldn't even consider voting for a white Democrat. So they definitely will not consider an African American or a woman. It's conservative values and possibly racism or sexism.

Gore would be awesome, but I highly doubt he’ll run :( not too sure about Clinton but the way things have been moving along I think that Obama actually has a great chance... Giuliani is not too popular with the conservatives, so if he loses that support then McCain comes into play and as of now, based on various polls, Obama has a slight lead over McCain…so I have a feeling it’ll be Obama and perhaps McCain… or Giuliani… we’ll see, it’s really early! But I’m totally psyched for the elections lol
