Disgusting! 719 from CA. The next most represented state has 97. A difference of 622. Makes it seems like this is a state school!

^^California is the largest state, and with Stanford being in California they will naturally get the most applicants from there. California also arguably has some of the best applicants in the country, so there is no point discriminating against them simply because they are from California.

and also, this is enrolled class...a lot of people in midwest/east who have gotten admission from both stanford and HYP, etc may choose to go to eastern schools...

least I hope that's the case...my state --> less than 10. haha, oh well. but thanks for posting the chart. that's pretty interesting. :)

^i think it would be helpful to be from an underrepresented state

Quick, juniors! Move to Wyoming!

A lot more students apply from CA, especially from the bay area so in reality, the acceptance rate for Californians may (don't know it) be lower.

why is michigan so low? All the other Midwest states have a lot more. What's up w/ Illinois?

My guess is that Michigan applicants choose to stay in-state and attend UMich rather than spare the traveling and tuition expenses for Stanford.

And Illinois has Chicago, it has much more in common w/ the East Coast than other states in the mid-West.

I guess that makes sense, I don't know, Michigan has Detroit which has a lot of rich suburbs and good schools...A lot of smart kids just use Michigan as a safety. It just seems weird that Kansas would have more kids.

The elitism of this is quite disgusting, too.

As ace009711 said, CA is the largest state (population-wise). Consider it a region. Now compare how Stanford draws from it to how Harvard draws from the Northeast. You'll see how similar they are.

wow thats ridiculous. now i know i have no chance.

Ohio: 21

hmm, I guess it could be worse.

puerto rico: 0 :)

kyledavid is right, CA is a region. Check Yale - admits 200 from Connecticut, and 400 from CA. Now compare the populations of those 2 states....

All the NE schools have very high NE concentrations, just as Stanford does for the west/CA. Given many students choose colleges closer to home, that's logical.
