Someone told me that Washu takes demonstrated interest very seriously. Looking at the 2016 results thread, I'm seeing that many well-qualified people were waitlisted. Could accepted/ waitlisted/ rejected people please post their basic stats/ if they visited? It'd be nice to see how the admissions committee works. Thanks!

I did send a commitment letter, though a little bit late(dunno weather it was taken into account), got waitlisted.

Yes, they do take visiting into account, more than most schools I think.

I visited and got accepted (2330 SAT). When I told WashU that I was planning on visiting, they mailed me a huge packet of info about the trip, gave me a card to get a free lunch, etc.I think it’s because they cannot tell whether someone is truly interested in WashU without a visit since there is no supplement.

That being said, there are loads of accepted students that did NOT visit – I don’t think it will count against you if you don’t, especially if you live far away.

I was accepted, visited once did the tour etc. I live near by so it would have looked really bad if I hadn’t. ACT 33 , 3.95uw. 4.55 weighted.

Waitlisted. Sat 2320. Sat2 800,800,770. Gpa 4.0uw, 4.6 weighted. Did not visit. Now please tell me what other top schools take visit into account like wustl does if you know. At least half of my reach schools (most ivies and/or top 10s) I did not visit. I will be very sad if I get WL/rejected by all of them. :(

For every kid accepted that didn’t visit Wash U, there are a dozen who did visit with similar stats who were waitlisted…

Figuring out Wash U admissions logic is like trying to figure out the final episode of Lost…ya think ya know, but then again…

Waitlisted. SATI 2370, SAT II 800 780. GPA 3.85 UW, 4.49 W. (Really good ECs and recs too I believe)

Did not visit… because I live on the west coast. I’m not saying I would have been accepted had I visited, but I feel like my application was at least at par with accepted WUSTL students’; I even sent in a research paper. So it’s either I wasn’t good enough or they thought I wasn’t truly interested.

So if you plan on applying, I say you should definitely visit if you can; if not, definitely get an interview.

We live within driving distance. When son visited WU during junior year, he wasn’t impressed. Furthermore, a classmate from prev year of his HS applied ED with lower rigor classes, and was accepted with full ride need based scholarship. This didn’t impress him either. After he saw that there wasn’t a supplement in Common App for WU, he made up his mind to not apply. Seeing the waitlist stats posted, we’re glad that he didn’t apply, for his chance of getting waitlisted is very high with the same stats that you guys have.

I was accepted RD, and I think writing an extra essay helped a lot since my stats are not THAT great. My SAT is 2300 and weighted GPA is 4.31 (which is about top 20% at my school). I wrote another essay in the common application additional information section about why I wanted to go to WUSTL. I guess this essay showed my “demonstrated interest”?

I’m an international student, by the way.

Waitlisted
ACT 34, GPA 3.14
Spent my first 3 years of HS in Maryland and doing my last year in Kazakhstan. Did not visit and showed very little interest, prbly that’s why I was waitlisted, although my stats aren’t top notch either.

Accepted:

Asian Male International Student living on foreign soil
SAT I: 2310, SAT II: 800 (MA2C), 770 (CH)
GPA: 4.5/4.5
12 AP Courses (by senior year) + 3 university courses

Founded a non-profit - a MUN conference with many international delegate participation

I think my grades are actually very generic (except for the fact I took the most difficult course load in school’s history), so I am assuming it’s my ECs (intl piano comp + MUN) that distinguished app from other high-calibre asians.

Submitted app dec. 31st, and took 15 minutes to complete - no interview, no visit

*Accepted into Olin Business

I did add 3 pages of “additional information” to every common application that explained the non-profit as well as my reflection on the 3 uni courses. I think this could’ve given them a more in-depth perspective.

My sincerest good luck to everyone!!!

Accepted with a 35 ACT.

I visited (drove from Minnesota), so I demonstrated interest. I have a 3.92 UW/4.14W GPA.

SATII Math 800, US History 770, Chem 740.

My son did not visit, so I was surprised he was accepted. You can check his stats on the accepted thread. (Basics: SAT I 2320;
SAT II 800, 800, 730; GPA 4.0/4.84 and a number of national awards/honors among other things) He did contact them early in the application process and exchanged a number of emails. He also had a good interview.
