Hi everyone, I have been/am going to a lot of events at a college that does not consider “demonstrated interest”. I am going to sit in on computer science classes there this week, get a personal tour along with my friend of the CS department on the same day, and also am attending an invitation-only event for “high-achieving juniors” two days later. I have already done a tour there and talked with an admissions lady at a college fair. I plan to do this for other colleges as well. So, anyways, if a college does not consider demonstrated interest, will these events impact my admission at all? I want to go to these events regardless if they impact my decision, but it would be awesome if they impacted it in some way. I know colleges keep a record of people who visited and who attends these events, so I’m just wondering. Just let me know what you guys think. Thanks
Since the college has already stated that they do not consider demonstrated interest, it is unlikely that it will affect your decision.
It is possible that the college kept a record of attendees just for their records and statistics. They may not cross-check your name in their list of applicants as they do not think a student is a good ‘fit’ just because he/she attended some classes or talked to admissions officers.
The college says they don’t consider interest, so no. Attending the events will not affect your decision, however that shouldn’t stop you from wanting to go or sway you in any way.
Believe me, they aren’t. I just thought I should check @TheDidactic
If there is a “why x?” essay required on the application supplement, you can mention what you loved about the school from your visits.
Also if you happened to talk to an admissions counselor then they may be able to put a name to a face.
But clearly if you were invited to an invitation only event, they are interested in someone with your credentials.
