Demonstrated interest?

Do you think Vandy is the type of school that really focuses on demonstrated interest. I haven't really shown any extra interest, but I really do like Vandy, enough to make me sort of regret not applying EDII. Would it be worth it to send them an essay telling them why I would love to go, or is it too late to do that?

No, I don't think demonstrated interest is a factor. D & her friend were admitted without demonstrated interest. Wasn't there a "Why Vandy?" question on the app (there was last year)? If so, you already DID tell them!

we were told that demonstrated interest is no longer tracked at Vanderbilt; the "why Vanderbilt" question was eliminated from the supplement this year (which could account for the astronomic increase in applications)...Incidently, the year that Wash U eliminated their "why Wash U" supplement, I think their apps increased 25% (and the massive mailing campaign did not hurt)...

My d has been told that Vandy RD this year is basically like applying to Princeton with close to a 12% acceptance rate....With over 16,000 applicants left vying for only approx. 700 spots left, even with a 30% yield estimate, only 2,500 acceptances will probably go out.....Lots will be waitlisted....but demonstrated interest, unfortunately, will not matter.......

Those numbers are pretty scary. Only 700 spots left?? That's a lot of ED acceptances.

arrgghhh, bad news!

Greetings Friends,

There is snow on the ground in Nashville. Not exactly a sign that Spring is coming. But I assure you it is. The baseball team is playing, Rites of Spring Lineup is announced, and applications are going through committee. We're planning to mail in a few weeks.

Seriously everyone, don't get bogged down by ominous numbers, because they're not very accurate. We admitted about 1/3rd of our class in ED--the same we do every year.

Although there's no official data available yet, it is safe to assume that we'll send literally thousands of admissions offers out for Regular Decision.

We have an talented and diverse group of applicants this year. No doubt. But there's no need to camp out on CC. Go outside and play! It's Spring!

I see manila folders in my dreams,
Brad

acarey: I was not only counting ED, but also all the multicultural invites for MOSAIC, as well as scholarships......Surprised that Brad responded, but the numbers do look ominous (even though, Brad, we are trying to remain calm).....

p.s. At least moving the clock forward last night is some sign of spring (the weather certainly is not cooperating.....)

So, Brad ... given the especially large freshman class this past year ... how are things looking for transfer student numbers? My D passed up the opportunity to come to Vandy last year & regrets the decision. She has applied for transfer & is on pins and needles. Of course, numbers don't really matter ... it doesn't matter whether Vandy accepts more, less, or the same amount of transfers if she doesn't get in ... but I'm a math geek, so throw a number my way, please! That is, assuming y'all have gotten as far as thinking about transfer numbers in the midst of RD ...

that's a very scary number

they should put the Why Vandy question back in and track the hell out of interest. it's not like ever had a yield problem because people actually want to come here after getting in but i think you should send the letter anyway...because well, it can't hurt can it

calling: totally agree and that's exactly what my d did....we'll see if it mattered in a few weeks!!!

Well, I really hope I am one of those thousands!

I see acceptance letters in my dreams (I'm not even kidding),
Anna Molly
