Demonstrated interest

does penn keep tract of an applicant's demonstrated interest (emails, school visits, phone calls, etc)? does it influence admission decisions?

nope 10char

Seriously? Not even school visits count?

I'm pretty sure they have a record of some of this stuff.

Does it sound like that should influence their decision? How's that going to tell them anything about whether or not you belong at Penn? They are interested in the applicant, not the extent of the applicant's desire to get in. And besides, applying early is the ultimate form of demonstrated interest anyway. :)

while it may be tracked, the nature of penn's applicant pool more or less means that demonstrated interest by those means is not a factor in decisions.

The sincerity of your interest will be transparent in the Why Penn essay. Or at least it should be.

when you ask, they say they dont track visits...

However, I live 2.5 hours from penn and the regional rep has told my Guidance counselor that if a student applying in my area doesnt even visit, they will not get in.

i really dont think they track emails and phone calls, b/c this doesnt demonstrate interest. if uve visited and applied early and wrote a good essay, thats all you need. but not calling or writing emails could simply mean that u dont have any questions.

I don't believe your guidance counselor. There are plenty of people who live close by who cannot visit for various reasons, or just choose to visit on their own time or are already familiar with Penn.

I doubt they "officially" keep track but it's like getting a job: if you show enough interest, they will remember you.

If you can walk in and they know at least your first name or something unique about you just by your face or name, then you've demonstrated enough interest. If they can't, you haven't done enough.

This is the litmus test for college, for recruiting (listen up potential Whartonites), and everything where it's competitive to get in.
