Would you say that starting a charitable-type operation demonstrates an interest in "business"?

not really, unless it’s like a small business development center or something (but you’re destined to fail with that because you don’t have the backing of professionals)

Does it demonstrate an interest in business? No, not really. But it does operate like a business if you can work with that.

lots of kids I know made BS non-profits to show off to colleges. Shows “leadership.” Guess if it worked for them, it can work for you but I repeat - it’s not exactly an interest in business, only an ability to lead (which is more important to the ad com at this point in time)

OK, that’s fair enough. It’s not BS, though. I don’t sell goods or services, or even handle money, but I need to acquire and distribute resources, network, and keep records. I suppose if I present it as a leadership opportunity that could work.

So does that mean I still don’t demonstrate an interest in business?

How you portray it to the admission officials is what matters – I would use the essay wisely if I were you.

what grade are you in?

@geekorathletic: That’s another question of mine – should I list it as an extracurricular, and then write my extracurricular essay on it, or save it for my personal essay?
