I have demonstrated a lot of interest to Bucknell (I visited, have communicated with my local admissions counselor, and went to a fall reception) do you think this will improve my chances of getting in compared to others?? I am planning on majoring in English, and later double majoring in Business. I am in the top 10 percent of my class and have a ton of international serve experience in Guatemala, Trinidad, New Orleans, and New Mexico. I have also taken 5 AP’s and all honors, thoughts?
I’m sure they would rather accept someone who has shown interest over someone who has not with similar stats. There is no way that demonstrating interest can hurt you. It definitely helped me in my app.
thanks! where do you go?
I agree with comment #1 and try to show interest in multiple ways beyond the campus visit.
What are your SATs? This would help with your question.
Interest is really good, as it can not only potentially increase a school’s yield, but also increase school spirit if the accepted students love the school they attend. That being said, you still have to be competitive in order to have a shot, and interest does not guarantee admission. Good luck!
^^I agree. That is why I asked for SAT scores. S/he said top 10% of class and 5 AP’s. That with interest and a competitive SAT makes admission much more likely.
My SAT’s aren’t as good as my GPA. SATS: 1990 GPA 4.1 . I have a lot of leadership extracurriculars tho: I am president of a volunteer club that goes on monthly trips to the soup kitchen, am president of the Spanish Club, am a Sunday School teacher for second grade students, am a cashier at Chick-fil-A, am in NHS and Spanish NHS, have attended a MIT Samsung sponsored event, and have received a Global Service award for my trips to New Orleans, New Mexico, Trinidad, and Guatemala. What do you guys think? I think I have a shot. I have visited, shown interest through emailing a professor, my regional admissions counselor, meeting a girl at Bucknell from my HS, and attending a fall reception!
I definitely think you have a very good shot Lana22. Apply. Good luck.
The absolute best way to demonstrate interest and boost your chances is to apply ED — is that an option for you? Good luck Lana!
I have already applied ED since I also applied to 12 other schools. We will see what happens in March. Thanks for the advice!
