I was recently denied access into Temple University. My GPA is 3.1 and my SAT is 1640 which i personally think is good enough to get into the university, but if that is not enough, I have a great extra-curricular. I am in the middle of writing an appeal but I have no idea what to do at this point. This is my dream school. Is there still hope for me?
How did you do with your other applications?
It appears that you won’t be going to Temple. What’s plan B?
Well I think the deal is, there are less seats than qualified applicants. About 70 or 75% of accepted students had gpa higher than you. And they regard gpa as more important than scores. You scores are in range.
I don’t know if that university entertains appeals, do you? Is there new information to add that wasn’t available at time of your applications? An error? I guess I am asking what the basis is for your appeal, think on that.
I would not say ‘dream school’ in your letter, rather ‘number one choice’.
Were you applying as a freshman? Did you apply fairly late (it seems you might have if you just received notification)? Temple has very good transfer agreements with community colleges in the area, and quite a high transfer acceptance rate (about 85%). If you really want to go there, try applying as a transfer student.
p.s. Which department did you apply for? Some are more selective than others.
I applied undecided.
I would move on and choose between schools you have been admitted to.
If you weren’t even waitlisted, then the answer is no, you don’t have a chance. It’s time to move on.
Where else did you get admitted?
Your best bet is to go to a college that admitted you, get high grades right from the start (go to the tutoring center if you get a b or lower at any point) and apply as a transfer student in the Spring for Fall 2016.
I say if you REALLY want to go to Temple than be content with were you’ve been accepted first. I think you should go ahead with the appeal and try your luck, the worst they can say is no but the best is yes but don’t go ahead with the appeal until you’ve cleared a college to attend in case things fall through.
Temple even accepts mid-year applicants. My son received his acceptance for January on Christmas Eve. He had been waitlisted for transfer admission in the fall, and they waited to see his grades from some community college courses he enrolled in. They take a lot of transfers.
i would start somewhere else and apply as a transfer student. community college may not be bad idea and keep the grades up. def appeal too. as someone above noted, the worst Temple can do is say no. if you start somewhere else, look for a school that has a good relationship with Temple to transfer your college credits.
Just replying because I found out I did not get into temple yesterday, I have a 3.2 gpa, I go to a catholic high school, I never took AP but I took somewhat hard classes last year and I got denied. I was shocked because I’m not super smart but i do try hard and last year my general average was a 85 for my junior year. I also got a 1240 on my SAT’s not good but I’m hearing wether is get into any college now. I think I just might go to community and transfer. I know what you mean on getting rejected it sucks. Espically from temple which is a fairly easy school to get into
do you mean 1240/1600 or 1240/2400? a 3.2 GPA is certainly quite decent.
@alissa228: in order to get answers, you need to create your own thread and create your own first post to which others will respond to, rather than to this Op’s.
Your GPA is decent (Temple’s average GPA would be more 87-88) but your SAT score is very very low (about 400 points too low).
Are you a PA resident? If so, apply to Mansfield University, Clarion, CalU, plus PSU Abington or PSU Greater Allegheny (that one has dorms). You MAY have a shot at Lycoming, Lebanon Valley, Chatham, Elizabethtown. Apply test optional to those that allow students do to so.
What’s your EFC?
a community college is also an option. any thoughts on that myos1634?
and i agree on applying test optional if your score is 1240/2400. i very strongly recommend that.
