Surprisingly, I was just rejected from the CNS but accepted to my second choice, Cockrell. Are there any ideas why this happened? Has this happened to anyone else? I kept hearing that admissions to Cockrell was more competitive than that of CNS, and that Cockrell and McCombs were the hardest schools to get into by far. The only reason I put Cockrell down as my second choice instead of UGS is because it was the only thing that had anything to do with my first choice major, and I was 100% set on my first choice major.

Anyways, I got accepted either way, and UT is my dream school. What are my options for transferring? What is the process for transferring to CNS? I assume it would be easy to do before school starts since CNS is open, but if that were the case it brings me back to my original question of why didn't they just admit me to CNS in the first place. I've already been accepted to my first choice major at other good schools, but I really want to go to UT.

Also, I applied to the Dean's Scholars Honors and Turing Scholars Honors and I thought I had a pretty good shot at getting in, but I assume I'm out of the running for those?

Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks.

Forgot to add. UT is one of my top schools too and like you I would like to transfer into Cockrell either before school starts or maybe just complete my first year and transfer over. I don’t know what to do. Does anybody have any prior experience with switching majors before school starts?

I dont know how it will be to transfer from CNS to Cockrell, but I would think it would be easy to transfer from Cockrell to CNS. My D had no problem transferring during orientation. She went to the first session that was available… I would highly recommend that. She transferred from Education to UGS and then applied to the Comm school in October and got accepted right before the Spring semester started. The Comm school is the third hardest major to get into at UT, only because it is so popular, not because of it’s rigor necessarily. Good Luck!

Yeah I know it would be pretty difficult to get into Engineering before school, so could I just complete freshman year and do my GenEd stuff and then transfer over? I’m sure that I would have to talk to my Advisor about all of this, but does anybody have experience with this? Surely somebody has transferred into Engineering.

My D has a friend that was able to transfer to Mccombs during registration. He was in the top 20 kids in her class of 600 and a top notch applicant. When he applied, he didnt know he wanted to be in McCombs…I think he applied under College of Natural Sciences…he is pre-med. He not only transfered to McCombs but is in the honors program.

D has another friend who was an auto admit and admitted into the Comm school. She has now decided that she wants to transfer to McCombs and was told that she needs to have a VERY high GPA…she had a 4.0 last semester. She can’t apply to transfer until sometime this semester and she will probably find out before the Fall semester starts if she will get in…

These are 2 scenarios for McCombs which is very similiar to Cockrell as far as difficulty in admissions…I hope this helps a little.
