Denied Housing, so now...

I'm going to have to choose an apartment to live in, and I don't know anybody I can room with! I've heard great things about West 10, Venetian Villas, and the Polo Club, but only from a single person. Ignoring saving money as a priority, which of the apartments near FSU would any of you recommend?

Thank you!
Ky

Why were you denied housing? Have they already filled up for the fall?

What happend?

Wow, I did not know that they were turning freshman away. Did you miss a deadline? Not pay a deposit? I do know that there seems to be alot more upperclassmen staying on campus. Are you on a wait list?

Most student apt housing rents by the bedroom, so you can still pay for a single bedroom in a 3 or 4 bedroom apt to both save money and meet other students. You don’t have to know with others. And you sign a lease for only your portion of expenses so if someone moves out it is not you covering the rent.

Have you called housing and spoken with someone personally about your chances? There are always students who don’t end up in the dorms. And apartments are EASY to find/rent even at the last minute. Everyone thinks they have to sign a lease early. The longer you go this summer before you sign an apartment lease, the better the incentives, as they are NOT FULL and they will be trying to give you a good deal, even in August.

There are ALOT of kids in a facebook group called “Florida State University class of 2013” who did not get rooms and are looking for people to room with, so if you have a facebook, check it out. Most of them had priority numbers in the 6000’s and 7000’s , the 5000 priority number group is on a waitlist, so they aren’t released from their contract yet. There must be alot of upperclassmen staying because I’m shocked how many are “homeless” as they call themselves. I feel bad for them. Luckily my daughter applied to an LLC and got into wildwood cause her number was 3959, phew

My son stayed on campus last year and had a friend that rented at University Village on Call Street. My son decided to rent there starting in August. They have three buildings and are close enough so that he can ride his bike rather than drive his car to campus. We drove around the complex last February and it looked nice from the outside. The 4/2’s are priced from $399 to $439 a month. It is works out to be much cheaper per year. For Landis and Ragans (fall, spring & summer A & B) he spent almost $6600. This next year he’ll spend around $4800. Just google the name to get to their website.

The cost of off campus living looks to be less expensive. Until you start driving back and forth and add the cost of a car. Or until you start eating out more instead of using a meal plan or cooking. And finding a parking place when you commute is impossible. There are more and more upperclassmen who are staying on-campus. This makes it hard on the freshman who don’t get a slot.

There are also private dorms close that are an option over an apartment. Check out the facebook group!

Yeah, they just ran out of space for me. I applied late-ish for housing, so now I’m stuck getting an apartment my freshman year. As if college doesn’t seem scary enough already…

I would keep calling the housing department until you have a lease because alot of the kids that got smith and kellum, etc. are wanting to get an apartment now.

Being FTIC you might want to consider one of the private dorms like Southgate [SouthGate >> Private Dorm >> FSU >> Student Housing >> Florida State University >> Private Dorm >> Tallahassee Apartments >> Florida State University >> Student Housing Apartments](http://www.southgatecampusctr.com/welcome.html) which will give you a similar experience to living on campus
or possibly the Heritage Grove Apartments http://www.heritage-grove.org/</a> where many fraternities are housed and which takes the Florida Prepaid Dorm Plan as partial payment. There are also many other apartments and houses for rent near the campus that have free buses that take you right to campus and some offer individual contracts for students and have nice amenities while others do not.

Those that signed on for a dorm plan can’t just get out of it and move off campus Geminancy. The houseing contract is a binding contract, which is why for those under 18 you had to have a parent co-sign. You cannot get out of it by just asking. Normally, you can get out of it only if you do not actually enroll in FSU. Now, if you had a person without a contract and another person who did , and they knew each other, and the one with a contract called housing and said “I have someone who will sign a contract for housing in my place,” it might be possible. But if you sign for housing, and then back out, but still attend FSU, you still have to pay for the contract or they will put a hold on your account and you cannot attend classes.

Maybe they are more lenient in years they have a waitlist, but be careful about friends who sign a lease for an apartment if they signed up for housing but didn’t liek where they got. They could have some financial problems.

The kids who want out are being told by housing that if they can find someone to trade or take their assignment they can do it, that’s just what the kids are saying on facebook

hey k,

you still looking for an apartment? I’m moving into the players club this fall and looking for roommates
