denied transfer admission to UCI: help!

<p>I believe the reason I got rejected was because I was one English class short of the UC transfer requirements.
I got rejected from UCR after they guaranteed my admission back in January (which led me to believe that I was qualified to transfer to any UC) but I got denied in March, so I called UCR and asked them if I can take it during the summer, and the counselor overturned the decision and admitted me over the phone, under the terms that I have to take that class this summer. But... that's UCR.
I got rejected from UCI 3 days ago.
All I needed to get in (maybe) was that one English class. I tried getting in touch with my counselor, but for the past 3 days she hasn't picked up her phone and the calls went directly to her voicemail.
I'm still trying to get a hold of her, but will UCI counselors be as lenient as the ones at UCR? I am already planning on taking that class at either RCC or IVC (I mean, I have to in order to go to UCR)
I have already typed out my appeal letter and have it ready to mail in case the counselor is going to ignore what I have to say and just leave things the way it is. Then again, what are the chances for an appeal to be successful this year?</p>

<p>did u write u were going to take that class over the summer on ur transfer update?</p>

<p>If you’re missing one of the two transferrable English classes, I think it may be too late to take the course in the Summer. </p>

<p>According to the UC Website: [University</a> of California - Counselors](<a href=“http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/adminfo/transfer/advising/answers/preparing.html#1]University”>http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/adminfo/transfer/advising/answers/preparing.html#1)</p>

<p>“UCI
Units completed the summer before fall enrollment are not accepted if needed to meet minimum UC eligibility in English or math. However, those needed to reach a total of 60 transferable semester (90 quarter) units will be accepted.”</p>

<p>UCI has Winter 2010 transfers that begin class in January through the Tag program, so you may want to go that route in case you’re not admitted for Fall 09.</p>

<p>yea I mentioned in my appeal letter that I am already planning on registering this summer in july when the classes start</p>

<p>no but i mean, if you mentionned the class on the transfer update, then u should have been fine. imtaking a prereq over the summer, which i wrote on my transfer update, and they accepted me.</p>

<p>im sure ifu didn, and u write it in ur appeal, u should be fine.</p>

<p>is the class ur taking math or english? cuz i think abbybabbybobby (long name) is right. i went on the website and UCI doesnt permit specifically engilsh or math over the summer.
i didn’t mention it on the transfer update because UCR guaranteed my admission and i though i was all set with my prereqs (i though 2 APs english in high school fulfilled the 2 english) i mean…what’s more reassuring than a UC telling u that ur in? (UCR later admitted to making a mistake and denied me, until i called and got it settled.)
so…i guess it’s bye bye UCI dreams and hello UCR (15 mins away from home).
i just think its so unfair how this whole college system works. i have a 3.5 from northeastern university in Boston, tons of EC, awards…blahblahblah but because of some english class i don’t get in…and on the other hand a 2.8 gets admitted…
so unfair. :frowning:
but thanks everyone for the replies. appreciate it.</p>

<p>herin… im sure u’ll be fine. what u can do is, try to just talk to the admissions office about ur situation and see if they think its possible for u to appeal onthat basis. im sure they’ll let u though.</p>

<p>I think you should call UCI admissions and call them. They have to tell them. If you find out that that was the reason, then go ahead and appeal. </p>

<p>Good luck.</p>

<p>Completing a prereq and completing IGETC over the summer are two very different things (as in the one is okay, the other isn’t). You still need to contact UCI instead of your cc counselor. Also, in your appeal I think you have to explain what prevented you from completing the course this Spring and why you were led to believe it wouldn’t cause a problem with your admission (do you have any emails or anything from UCR as verification?).</p>

<p>I have the email from UCR guaranteeing my admission, but I don’t have anything to prove they rejected me, because UCR is just like UCI, it’s posted on an online portal, and when I made the phone call and the counselor overturned the rejection, the rejection status changed to an accepted one, and I never received a rejection email or letter in the mail.</p>

<p>hey everyone i just got an email back from my counselor telling me that the reason i got rejected wasn’t because of the english class.
i guess i was in a disadvantageous situation coming from a east coast private 4 year.
they said they gave cal cc priorities. so… whatev.</p>

<p>Well, guess it wasn’t all that unexpected. Publicly funded UCs afterall.</p>
