psualum80…
Sorry about your son. I’m sure you’re both disappointed. I’m a bit surprised with his outstanding GPA. Did you put summer as an option? I’m also an alum and my son’s first choice is UP/Smeal. His stats are 3.8GPA/1940 single best sitting, 2000 combined. When he applied back in Sept. I thought he would be accepted but now I’m a nervous wreck and feeling very unsure. I coerced him into putting summer even though he does NOT want to start in July. Like your son, he applied and was accepted to Pitt school of business. I feel your pain about wearing the shirt (we were both at PSU when the shirts read ****t on Pitt!). I’m also trying to maintain the attitude that “what’s meant to be is meant to be” but it’s not easy with all the stress and anxiety!

PSUFan82- Thanks for your thoughts… The hurt has worn off since we found out yesterday. My son, did, in fact put summer as an option also leaving the branch section blank. We spoke to a head admissions person today, actually, the lady who I think made the final decison. From the sound of her, it seemed like she’d been doing this for years… an older woman with all the answers. She told us that our son has a lot of “talent” ???
Ugh. His friend got in summer with a 4.2 and a slightly lower SAT. Who knows. Maybe they thought since we graduated from there and our daughter is there, that was enough. No really, he is very at peace with things and believes that things happen for a reason. For example, the U of Pitt invite for admitted students to spend a day there came in the mail yesterday with PSU’s horrible news. My son is psyched about Pitt. He was accepted as one of the 300 freshmen in the College of Business. I see him thriving there in an environment where the admissions dept. liked him as a whole and appreciated all of his hard work and well roundedness that he built during his 4 years in H.S. The lady at PSU admitted that they don’t have the time to look at any of that. PSU is an academic decision and that’s it in a nutshell.
Also… instead of the **** on Pitt t-shirt we used to wear… we will be sporting 2 magnets on our car > a PSU and PITT paw print !! :-)))

Just found out son was denied to Up online. It says that we can contact them about going to a different campus or changing his major. They said then he would reviewed again. Does this mean he was rejecetd to the branch campuses as well as Up? It wasnt clear on the website. Also does this mean if he changes majors does he still have a chance at UP? We are confused and heartbroken. Our son wants pre-law so he can really major in just about anything. He put down crime law and justice as a major. He doesn’t know if he should call today or wait till the letter comes and see if there is any further information on that. Although he sas been accepted to four other schools- Penn is the best of the bunch and really the only true one that he wanted. By the way his stats were 3.5 and 1900 Sat.

I think it means that you either didn’t put a second choice or you forgot to put it down. If you really want to go to UP, I suggest you change your major to DUS quickly (call them right now) and get re-evaluated. Once you get to FTCAP, you can tell your advisor that you are interested in pre-law or w/e major and he/she will help you gear your schedule towards that so when the time comes to choose a major, you won’t be behind.

my son’s message says the same thing. i had asked them the question about re-evaluating him under a different major and they told me it wouldn’t matter. good luck.
